Euro NCAP: Suzuki Ignis secures 3 & 5 stars (with safety pack)

Suzuki Ignis (2016) tested by Euro NCAP. Will go on sale in 2017 in Europe.

Euro NCAP Frontal Impact takes place at 64 Km/h, 40% of the width of the car striking a deformable barrier. In the Full Width test, 100% of the width of the car impacts a rigid barrier at 50 Km/h. In the side impact, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door at 50 km/h. In the pole test, the car tested is propelled sideways at 32 km/h into a rigid pole.

Is it 3-stars with the curtain airbags?

The A-pillars were not crushed in the frontal crash tests, that should ensure an 'Okay-ish' safety, even though 3 does not sound convincing for a new-gen car.

So the safety pack adds what is called a "dual camera brake support"

This is the first time I came across something like this.
Seems like this is the only difference between the two variants as the airbags are the same on the 3 star and 5 star car.

Edit: The five star car has an auto emergency braking system (AEB). I guess the system uses two cameras to brake automatically hence the moniker "dual camera brake support"

Dint know Suzuki had the know how or inclination to develop such safety systems. Do you think this feature will be available on the Indian Ignis ?

Both the models of the Ignis feature frontal airbags for driver and passenger along-with side head, chest and pelvis airbags at the front.

An AEB system might go crazy in Indian traffic conditions always taking over braking and frustrating the driver and everyone around. These type of collision avoidance technologies will need a whole different way of thinking to work in Indian traffic conditions. Look at it this way, if Maruti is able to bring the 3 star rated car to India, that is a significant improvement over the 0 stars that several other cars being sold in India get. PS: I'm fully aware, this is slightly optimistic - we probably won't get side curtain airbags etc. in India. )

I can truly see how this would be annoying. You cannot drive aggressively to block anyone from cutting into your lane which is rampant here in India.

I guess we should be grateful if we do get the 3* version here.

Not only crazy, in few days, rear of all the Ignis will look like Ritz due to continues rear ending by fellow road users (pun intended, no offense to Ritz owners, I actually like Ritz very much)

I too hope for the 3 star Ignis to be launched in India. With recent addition of Airbags & ABS across all range in Suzuki cars (at least as options), I think Maruti Suzuki will make sure, Ignis will also be getting those.
