Renault, Nissan & Mitsubishi to share EV platform

Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi are planning to share their electric vehicle platforms. This decision has been taken with an aim to reduce prices of electric vehicles by an extent that they are priced similar to conventional gasoline powered cars.

Nissan recently acquired a controlling stake in Mitsubishi, which has brought the Japanese brand under the Nissan-Renault Alliance. The three automakers have now decided to take advantage of this alliance in the electric vehicle domain by sharing their platforms, components and technologies to ensure a competitive price tag for their respective products.

As part of this decision, Renault and Mitsubishi will be using the same platform that underpins Nissan's remodelled Leaf electric car, which is expected to go on sale in 2018. In addition to the platform, the three companies will also be sharing various other components including electric motors, inverter and battery. Reports claim that this step will help Nissan to cut down prices of the Leaf by about a fifth.

Carlos Ghosn shares the group's plan

Carlos Ghosn shares the group's - Renault, Nissan & Mitsubishi, plans with Hormazd Sorabjee in the Geneva Motor Show.

Interesting bits

"If you make it big in India, you are gonna make it in many other emerging markets"

"We have started to make money in India now"

Hormazd talks about the platform strategy - CMFA & CMFA+, for which Mr. Ghosn amusingly says
"My God, you know our product better than our specialists, you know, I've already told you, you have a better career as a product planner of Renault and Nissan"

Inspiration for the Kwid is Nano

"When Ratan came with the Nano, I told him brilliant, I congratulate him and he said I was the only one who congratulate him because lot of them said bad idea, no, good idea and I'm glad at the end of the day we came with the Kwid and the Kwid was inspired by the Nano"

Very modest of him to admit that his most successful product was inspired by a competitor's offering
