Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

Mod Note: Our Volkswagen Virtus Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

With Volkswagen aligning product strategy for Brazil/ Russia and India, could this be the Next Vento due in 2018?

New VW Voyage/Polo Sedan 2018 is caught first in Brazil. The family of products - Next Gen Polo, Polo Sedan. Polo CUV and Truck will be inline with the Global Polo. Volumes seems to come from Brazil.

The spied sedan has similarity to the European Polo spied earlier.
Quote:
bumper, headlights, grille, hood, front doors, windshield ... it's all the same to the hatch caught in Europe.
This also confirms the emerging market will get products based on a simplified version of the MQB platform of Golf - MQB- A0. The new VW Voyage is having a wheelbase of 2.56m , 10 cm longer than the current one, indicating more interior space.

Quote:
The mechanical Assembly is in charge of the engines and-1.0 litre 211 of aspirated versions (this only for the hatch) and turbo with direct injection (sedan and SUV), with possible use of the 1.4 TSI in specific versions-a GTI the hatch and sport truck, which needs greater torque. Transmission should be manual or automatic, six-speed always

re: Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

Now it becomes more clear - Volkswagen is likely to replace the Voyage with the upcoming Sedan - Vento in Brazil.

Vento will become the sedan from Volkswagen for emerging markets.

Likely to be shown at the Geneva Motor show in March this year!

For India it is likely to carry over the same set of engines as the current model, so expect a 1.5-litre diesel engine, a 1.2-litre TSI petrol for India and larger capacity petrol engines ( 1.4TSI) for the international markets like Russia and Brazil.

re: Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

So what was reported in 2015 comes true, expect all models from VAG to follow this philosophy,

Quote:
The first model on the MQB A0 is likely to be the Vento NF - or Nach Folger, which means successor in German - planned for 2018-19
Quote:
Eventually, all the models sold in India (Polo, Vento, Fabia, Rapid and new utility vehicles) would move to this modern architecture, giving the company flexibility.

VW VIRTUS is the name of the Polo Sedan for Brazil. To arrive before the next Gen Polo.

Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled-1.jpg

Does that mean the New Vento will move a segment higher in pricing?

Also coming is the new generation Jetta.

Quote:
it will be built on the MQB A0 platform and positioned commercially between the Voyage and the Jetta
Quote:
Volkswagen has coveted a sedan between the Voyage and the Jetta for some time. It would be the ideal competitor for Chevrolet Cobalt, Renault Logan and Nissan Versa.
Quote:
The debut date has not been confirmed but, between the lines, Diess makes clear that the Virtus will arrive first than the Polo, paving the way for the return of this premium compact to the market.

re: Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

The Virtus gets ready for an early 2018 launch in Brazil. Spied on test again.

Built on the modified MQB A0 platform the Virtus is ~ 4.2m long and a wheelbase of 2.56 m, which translates to 10cm longer than Voyage and hence will have more space for the rear passengers and a boot space of ~ 500 l.

Quote:
All engines are of the EA211 line. The offer starts at 1.0 MPI of 82 HP, with good performance thanks to the low weight of the base MQB.
Hope for less than 1,100 kg even with the addition of technology such as ESP and traction control. The TSI 1.0 with turbo and direct injection promises to lower the mark of ten seconds from zero to 100 km/h.

re: Virtus, the 2018 VW Polo sedan (Vento replacement). EDIT: Now unveiled

Will VW go Premium in india while its sister brand Skoda will tackle the lower end( <10 lakh) of the segment.

Will VW bring Virtus Sedan to replace Vento in 2018/19, and the NEW Gen Polo to India, built on the modified MQB A0 platform?

VW Virtus to replace Vento in India

VW plans to introduce a new model Virtus as a complete model replacement for the Vento. Currently, the Vento is underpinned by the PQ24 platform. The Virtus, however, will be on the new MQB-AB platform. This is the same platform that also underpins the next generation VW Polo.

The new platform will make the the Virtus should be considerably lighter than the Vento so it may not have the same level of stability as the outgoing model as has been seen on every model that has been replaced with the MQB.

That said, the car’s structure will be only stronger than that of the outgoing model. Thanks to a lower kerb weight, the upcoming VW sedan should boast higher performance and fuel mileage than the Vento.

Specifications-wise, the new sedan will be at least on a par with the current Polo-based sedan. Engine options should include a 1.2-litre TSI Turbo Petrol, a 1.4-litre TSI Turbo Petrol and a 1.5-litre TDI Turbo Diesel.

I'm not sure how correct this info is. Earlier reports indicated that VW will not change its line up in India until 2020 by when they may roll out a new Polo and Vento based on a heavily reworked PQ24 platform and that the MQB platform would be too expensive for India. In the midst of this news VW's tie up with Tata got formalised and there was confirmation that Skoda would use the AMP platform which will be developed by Tata.

The alliance between the Tata group and VW is currently only at an MOU stage. Yes, VW employed EDAG to assess the Tata AMP platform and EDAG found it to be good. VW is also looking at Tata to come with engines as VW's costs are higher and the partnership will bring down costs through localisation.

However, there is still a long way to go from approving a platform to building a car. The key area is the cultural differences between the organisations which has been the fall out of the Tata - Suzuki alliance too. And even when an alliance with Tata worked as it did with Fiat, it was a disaster.

So there's going to be many a slip between the cup and lip and VW cannot wait for everything to be sorted to roll out new cars as nothing has been decided yet as to which models will be launched though this partnership.

Hopefully if all goes well, the MOU will move to a cooperation agreement stage which will have a lot of complex factors to be considered such as sharing of profits, responsibilities for warranties, production capacities, cost boundaries etc etc .

In the meantime it's got to be business as usual within VW and new models will have to be launched regardless of whether the MOU will see the light at the end of the tunnel.
