BMW had introduced the 4-Series in 2013 as a replacement of the 2-door variants of the 3-Series. The automaker later added a convertible model to the line-up, followed by a 4-door Gran Coupe. The entire 4-Series family has now been updated, receiving some design changes and a few mechanical tweaks as well.

Changes on the outside include restyled LED headlamps that replace the Xenon units of the outgoing model. While Bi-LED headlights are standard across the range, BMW is also offering adaptive LED headlamps as an optional extra. Meanwhile, all variants of the new 4-Series come with LED fog lights as standard. The car also gets LED tail-lights and redesigned front & rear bumpers.

The 2017 4-Series models come with two new colours - Snapper Rocks Blue and Sunset Orange. Moreover, each variant (Advantage, Sport Line, Luxury Line and M-Sport) now gets a model-specific alloy wheel designs.

On the inside, the dashboard layout remains similar, though BMW has provided some minor updates like double stitching on the instrument cluster, an upgraded steering wheel and cabin detailing via chrome and glass black inserts. The automaker has also added more customisation options for the interiors of the 4-Series range. Additionally, the navigation system has been updated to feature a revised user interface with tile-like icons, similar to the system found on the new 5-Series.

No powertrain-related changes have been announced with the mid-life facelift. However, the 4-Series Coupe and Gran Coupe get a revised suspension setup that is slightly stiffer than the earlier model.
