Designer reshuffle in BMW - Karim Habib quits Chief Designer Karim Antoine Habib, a Canadian citizen of Lebanese descent has quit BMW for the 2nd time and this time might be for the long haul. The man who had spent much of his early career days in BMW (1998-2009) quit the firm to join Mercedes for a couple of years until 2011 only to return. Now the rumors are getting stronger by the day about him potentially joining Hyundai but that remains unconfirmed as of now. Here's a brief video on the man :
Now the reshuffle is as follows :
- Josef Kaban, the former chief of exterior design in Skoda has now taken over Karim Habib's profile within the company.
- Domagoj Dukec, a company insider will lead the design of BMW's i and M divisions.
This step-down signals, perhaps a forced reshuffle of the BMW design team, since not so long ago, Anders Warming of MINI quit to join Bogward and Benoit Jacobs of i Division, left to join a Chinese electric car-making firm.
VWAG is literally hollowed out in terms of designers and engineers as well, with legends Peter Schreyer(Audi), Luc Donckerwolke (Lambo/Bentley) & Sangyup Lee (Bentley)joining Hyundai, Walter DeSilva having quit due to the emissions scandal, Frank Van Meel going to M engineering division, and now with Josef Kaban going to BMW from Skoda. Much of them would've been replaced within the house I'd guess.
Would be interesting to see where Karim Habib finally ends up joining.
