Mitsubishi updates the Lancer for Asia - Now called the Grand Lancer

Mitsubishi has released an updated Lancer for the Taiwan and China markets. The Lancer tag has also been rehashed and will now be called the 'Grand Lancer'.

Based on initial looks, it does seem to be quite similar to the existing Lancer, but sports the now family look grille upfront, as seen on the Pajero Sport, Outlander etc. As per reports, it will be powered by a 1.8L engine mated to a CVT producing 103kW of power and 176Nm of torque.

The Grand Lancer is currently aimed at the Asian markets in Taiwan and China where Japanese sedans are popular, and does not seem to be headed to Australia as per http://www.caradvice.com.au/522891/2...led-in-taiwan/

The Lancer known for being a honest, reliable yet fun to drive compact sedan continues its life in a new avatar. How long before it is discontinued in other global markets is to be seen.

Mitsubishi: 2017 Lancer launched in Taiwan and China!

The Grand Lancer:

Remember the Mitsubishi Lancer? Of course, you do! The once famous Lancer has been almost wiped out from the planet’s face, but for China and Taiwan. Yes, Mitsubishi has re-launched the car and has christened it as “Grand Lancer.”

Exteriors:

It is the ninth generation of the Lancer, and it has received some minor tweaks over its predecessor and was launched in both the Chinese and Taiwanese market. The Grand Lancer gets the same chassis that first came out in 2010. The vehicle looks fresh from the outside with agile designing bits and heavy use of LED lamps in the sleek new housing.

The sedan’s front fascia is similar to the Mitsubishi Outlander and does look splendid. The vehicle also gets 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the back, the new Grand Lancer gets L-shaped LED taillights and a new trunk design.

Interiors:

The interior of the vehicle is also similar to the Montero Sports model. The car gets a 3-spoke steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment, automatic climate control and gear shift indicator. The car also gets leather upholstery and digital instrument cluster as optional accessories.

Engine:
The Lancer is powered by 1.8-litre SOHC petrol engine that has a power output of 138 BHP and 176 Nm. It is the only engine that is offered with the car. The engine transmits power to the front wheels via CVT transmission.

Safety:
To make the vehicle safer, Mitsubishi has added various features like six airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, traction control, and stability control.

The Lancer has an iconic status in India. The vehicle arrived when there was a lack of performance-oriented vehicles in the country. The Lancer holds a special place in the heart of many enthusiasts...

Partnership with Nissan notwithstanding, Mitsubishi isn't in a position to spend big bucks on developing all-new generation cars. It simply can't afford them. Even if it could, without a solid differentiator & the weak Mitsubishi brand, the car would sink. Midsize sedans are an expensive hobby today, what with the market's fascination for crossovers.

Even the Montero that Mitsubishi is selling now is essentially an improved version of the same SUV they had in 1999. They're doing a Maruti 800 .

All new pics of Lancer. Looks brilliant. Would buy definitely if launched in India. Proper drool maal.

Looks clean and propionate. If the engine is stonking, it has the potential to demolish the likes of Honda and Volkswagens and Toyotas. Though if and when they launch, they should get a manual version.

Is it just me or does the front carry too much of chrome.

Is the grand lancer going to hit Indian shores???

Honestly - not a big fan.
The front looks a little like the City, and the rear looks like a fudged up S90 replica (interiors to a certain extent too).

Compared to some brilliant looking Lancers that we have seen in the past (about each and every generation), this is very disappointing.

Sadly, this has very less chance of succeeding in India if launched. More due to Mitsubishi's poor partnership status in India, and also its rivals having the upper hand.

The overdose of chrome applique is part of Mitusbishi's diamond-shield design philosophy, and is seen on all their new offerings as part of the family look.

Agreed. Looks similar to City. But black out the chrome and it'll look really good. Maybe I like Lancer because of Evo who knows..

True. Will not succeed. Fiat and Chevrolet are good examples. But if they come in India as an individual player with a solid product, they can succeed (like Renault).

I do hope they launch it here. Japanese reliability + Rally heritage = Good chances of succeeding. Will be a hard task though. Indian market is tough to crack.

Btw check it out in black colour with the spoiler. Add a spoiler to cars like Honda City or Corolla or Jetta and they look ricer. IMO, this one doesn't.
