Wheeler Dealers TV Show - Goodbye Edd China *EDIT: Edd’s back with Garage Revival!

After 13 series of Wheeler Dealers, Ed China is bowing out.

Why?

The orginal producer was Attaboy production who sold out to the US Based Velocity TV. They found during the last series that filming Edd's detailed fixes was not easy so they want to make that superficial.

Ant Anstead will be replacing Edd

More details here

Things will not be the same without Edd

I love that show! Edd is a treasure trove of information on troubleshooting, and while he may be working on international models, some of the knowledge was universal. I picked up a lot of tips from the show over the years.

I'll miss him.

This is ridiculous. Edd China's fabulous fixes with oh-so-much attention to detail are the backbone of that show! Am a klutz with a spanner but Edd China is my idea of vicariously "being a man"

He also complements Mike Brewer's mad energy superbly. I wonder if the new guy will be able to forge that kind of partnership.

Sorry to hear Edd is moving on.
It was the work in the workshop and the pain he takes to take care of minute details which held the show together.
This is what's wrong with today shows, some idiotic producer taking decisions without understanding the essence of the show.
It will turn into another stupid reality show.

Really sorry to see him go. But listen to his YouTube video and I would think it was the right decision for him. They did not want to show the detail work Ed puts in the cars. Ed wasn't happy with that and bid them farewell. Good for Ed.

I really enjoyed this series. It was amusing but also very informative. I absolutely loved seeing Ed doing all his spannering. He is a very gifted, talented and skilled guy.

Hopefully he will show up in another series doing something similar

This is really sad. Edd was a guy one always dreamt of being when we enrolled for Mechanical Engineering and the simplest fixes he administered on the cars so lovingly was a delight to see.

Discovery Turbo also kept repeating the same episodes of Wheeler dealers again and again and made us fall in love with this guy and then suddenly one left us dry without any of the episodes.

Really sad that we wont be seeing him in Wheeler Dealers again. He is too good at what he does. I am sure there would be other networks ready to grab him and keep us fans happy.

re: Wheeler Dealers TV Show - Goodbye Edd China *EDIT: Edd’s back with Garage Revival!

I was hooked on to this show, even though I am pretty sure I'm never going to be able to do these fixes myself, but just opening the cars up revealed so much. Not just discovery turbo, I was downloading the episodes now!! The most stunning one was them converting a Maserati BiTurbo into a full electric car.

Edd was really good at explaining things in a very simple manner, so their duo felt like a great match. Hope the replacement guy could deliver the same

Miss you Ed!

Don't really understand what was so complicated about his style that the new producers found difficult to continue.

He was an inspiration to many.

His methodical way of working, simple explanations and most importantly the ease with which he handled the pressures of repairs and restorations made him a popular figure with auto enthusiasts.

He was an antithesis to Mike Brewer and therefore they made a good pair. First Top Gear and now this! Why are TV Gods doing this to us .

Oh that's a shame!

I started watching Wheeler Dealers when Discovery Turbo started broadcasting here. And one of my favourite section was Edd doing his magic on the car which was bought and within the stated budget. Who doesn't like a good restoration?

And sometimes I did wonder why Mike is selling the mended car for such a bargain discounting Edd' great effort.

Good to hear that he opted out when the new producers wanted to cut corners with effort taken to fix a car. Good man Edd! I will be looking forward to his new YouTube channel.

Oh, no! My favorite car show. Like everyone else here I too enjoyed his detailed explanations and work.

Guess it is part of the "dumbing down" of all media over the years - they don't want anyone to learn too much. I miss Smokey's column too on Popular Mechanics.

I've set my recorder to record all the Wheeler-Dealer episodes.

I saw Edd talking about this on Facebook Live today - and was gutted. In my opinion, Edd represented a very unique niche - an expert, hands-on mechanical wiz, with the best well-heeled presentability I can recollect. Even Aaron Kaufman does not come close.

I will also miss Edd. i found him at just the right level to keep me interested. Now we may have some guy dishing out homilies with near zero content. I definitely, will miss Edd China.

If Edd's labour charges were included in the final bill, the refurbished car would probably cost more than a new one!

True. It’s one of the reasons that professional restoring of relatively inexpensive classic cars (e.g. MBGB, Escort, Golf, Spider) is simply not worthwhile at least from a financial point of view. A full restoration might cost twice as much as the car will ever be worth.

Western Europe workshop garage rates are easily somewhere in the Euro 75-95 an hour (INR5300-6800). Last decade has seen a lot of classics being restored in Poland as their labour rate to date are about half.

I have noticed that in the later series they did start mentioning the number of hours Edd put into the car. They did not make it financial, just mentioned the effort. I was always amazed on how low it was.

The other thing which would push Edd’s tariff up is his workshop. He had every tool imaginable. I want a workshop like that, rather then working on my cars in front of the house!

A real shame he will be gone.

Sad to see Edd go. Wheeler Dealers was really fun to watch and I can't really imaging the show without him. he came up with brilliant fixes for cars, keeping things at enjoyable levels.

I remember, many years ago he had appeared on Top Gear trying to make a James Bond car and in another episode, raced his sofa car against some other 'weird' cars.
