There are lots of recognizable features from the latest i30, albeit with flashes of bright plastic trim to match the exterior paint. The eight-inch touchscreen sat-nav from the i30 is incorporated into the dash and comes with free map updates for 10 years
Quote:
Hyundai will introduce a head-up display in front of the driver for the first time: a big eight-inch panel that flips up and displays speed and other driving data. In between the dials is a small TFT screen that can be optionally upgraded to a 4.2-inch colour unit. There’s also a Krell stereo system

Engines:

The Kona will launch with just two petrol engines. The entry-level 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo is the same motor found in the new i30 and boasts 118bhp and 175Nm of torque. It’s manual only, using a six-speed box, and this version is front-wheel drive only.
The other launch engine is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 175bhp, hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch auto box and four-wheel drive. It promises 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. The target economy figures are 38.7mpg for the 1.6 and 53.3mpg for the 1.0.

A 1.6-litre diesel will be added to the range shortly after launch with either 113bhp or 131bhp. The lower-powered car is manual and front-drive only, but the more powerful auto-only model can be ordered with front or all-wheel drive

That's one busy and ungainly design!

Looks like a modern Hyundai and a Jeep Cherokee went to bed together.

+1! I can see design elements taken from Jeep, Alfa Romeo, Audi with Mercedes/BMWesq interiors. I don't know if copying others is a good thing and Hyundai have been a master at this. The design might be bold and in your face aggressive now but the shelf life of this design is quite low IMO.

As an over all package though I'm very sure it'll be very good.

PS: If this ever comes to India, Hyundai must consider changing the name because Kona in my native language, Kannada means a 'Buffalo'!

A natural waterfall from this one should be the advent of 1L Turbo petrol and dual clutch boxes to Creta. May not happen soon though.

Re: The 2018 Hyundai Kona - now unveiled

AE reviews the Kona,

The 2018 Hyundai Kona - now unveiled-ko.jpg

Quote:
The 1.0 engine has just about enough shove for most everyday situations, although overtaking could be tricky if you drop out of what seems to be a pretty narrow powerband
Quote:
The Kona’s transmission isn’t the slickest either, but it’s quick enough as long as you’re positive with shifts

Quote:
The car stays pretty flat in corners, but the trade-off for this is a brittle ride on all but smooth surfaces; the rear end jolts over potholes and expansion joints, and the Kona never quite settles down over the sort of patchwork tarmac that you tend to find at the edges of plenty of British road

Are the headlights an option, I only hope those slits work at night or is better to have Hella's fitted? Of late I feel the headlight's are becoming more cosmetic than functional.
