Audi E-tron SUV to launch in India by end-2019

Audi is pushing to launch the E-tron in India as per the original schedule of end-2019. Given the SUV’s estimated Rs 1.5 crore ex-showroom price point and its niche battery-powered status, Audi anticipates limited demand for the model in India and will have enough stock to meet our market’s requirements. The model will primarily be a technology demonstrator in India, targeted at early adopters.

Audi India previews the e-tron ahead of its official unveil on July 12, 2019.

The Audi e-Tron SUV gets two electric motors, one on each axle. The one on the front makes 125 kW while the rear motor makes 140 kW, with the combined total of 265 kW or 355 bhp. The peak torque output is 561 Nm. In the boost mode, the power output goes up to 300 kW or 408 bhp. The Audi e-Tron SUV has a range of 400 km on a single charge according to WLTP cycle and can touch a top speed of 200 kmph. Also, the 0-100 kmph sprint is done in 6.6 seconds in the normal mode and 5.7 seconds in the boost mode. Being an Audi SUV, quattro is standard fitment. The SUV gets 432 cells in 36 modules which are packed together on the floor of the vehicle and have a combined weight of 699 kg with power capacity of 95 kWh.

Audi unveils cheaper e-tron electric SUV with smaller battery pack for Europe!

The current version of the e-tron, called e-tron 55, comes with a 95 kWh battery pack for a 204-mile EPA-rated range.

The new variant, which Audi is calling the e-tron 50, is instead equipped with a 71 kWh battery pack. It weighs about 120 kg (265 lbs) less than the current version of the e-tron.

According to the company, the new variant would get 186 miles (299 km) of range compared to 248 miles (399 km) for the version with the 95 kWh pack based on the WLTP standard.

As for the motors, it is still equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, but the output will be lowered from 402 hp to 308 hp (230 kW).

It will result in a slower 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 7 seconds and a top speed (electronically limited) at 118 mph (190 km/h).

Spent a full day with the Audi Etron, cruising around beautiful California. This is a proper luxury SUV that Audi has *intentionally* tried to keep as close to a conventional ICE car as possible. There is a grille at the front and the engine even has a humming sound (more for pedestrians though).

Super impressed. Butter smooth to drive, loaded with tech & features, very premium experience. That said, Tesla's tuning was more enthusiast-oriented (link to my post here). While the Audi Etron gives you regen braking (pull left paddle to activate), Tesla's was way more aggressive & more in line with my tastes.

Good car for cruising. But not fun-to-drive. My ideal garage would have 1 petrol car, 1 turbo-diesel and 1 EV:

Audi has revealed 'S' versions of the all electric E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback which pack in three electric motors one for the front axle and two for the rear with a peak combined output of 503hp and 973NM. Both have a top speed of 210 kph and a range of about 360km
