Honda: No more 6 cylinders for the Accord

Yesterday Honda gave up the spec details for the upcoming 10th generation Honda accord.

Having experienced the super sweet V6 Accords, its rather mixed emotions that the news evoked.
Excited about the wonder boy Honda 1.5 turbo, but sad to know the V6 is no more.

Key summary:
  • Two high-performance, high-efficiency turbocharged engines
  • First-ever 10-speed automatic transmission for a front-wheel drive car
  • Available 6-speed manual transmission for both turbo engines
  • Next-generation Honda two-motor hybrid powertrain technology
  • New, more aggressive design direction complements powertrain lineup

Details:
1.5-liter direct-injected DOHC Turbo with dual variable cam timing (dual VTC)
- Transmission would be Honda CVT and 6 speed manual.

2.0-liter direct-injected DOHC Turbo with i-VTEC® valvetrain
- Transmission would be an industry first 10-speed automatic.

re: Honda: No more 6 cylinders for the Accord

Meanwhile

Toyota : Honda, How could you?.... I gave the new Camry a V6 just because
of you.

Ford : The Fusion has a V6 to keep you company.

Toyota : Shut up !!!

Honda : Dude, Turbo downsize is the future....

Toyota : So, what about the V6 in the Odyssey, Pilot and that so called
pickup truck of yours

Honda : Well... Downsize has its limits dude.

Toyota : Huh, At least am there for the discerning enthusiast wanting a
V6.

Honda : Woh woah, slumber-fest king. I still offer manual shift. When was
the last time the Camry had it. Wait, last decade?

Mazda : I have a manual.

Honda : Oh, shut up !!!

Toyota : I lowered the Camry, lowered the center of gravity, pushed out the
wheels, just wait. It will be the most FTD in its segment, which is
kinda dying right now :(

Honda : But our rivalry shall continue

Toyota :

Honda : BTW, I upped the tranny stakes, 10 speed FWD.

Toyota : Ugh...

Interesting that as the Accord drops the v6 whether Toyota will follow suit and drop the v6 from the Camry too.

In the age of downsizing, its only a matter of time till even the v6 becomes elusive like the V8's are now, and are only offered by top end variants of the luxury manufacturers.

Re: Honda: No more 6 cylinders for the Accord

Saddened to hear. Honda's silky-smooth, revv-happy V6 petrol is a jewel of an engine and has many fans around the world. The ~270 BHP Accord sold here was something else - just thinking of that experience brings a smile to my face. They shouldn't take it away from the Accord. Something like Ford - they got the EcoBoost on the Mustang, but still offer the lusty 8-cylinder.

I don't mind downsized motors as an additional / entry-level option, but please don't take away the larger engines. Besides adding some much needed pizzazz to a mass market Accord / Camry, they also bring in the opinionated enthusiasts, have large profit margins & add a little cream to your brand. Think of it this way - would the S-Cross be seen so positively by enthusiasts if it didn't offer that 1.6L (no matter the 1.6's dismal sales figures)?

Yes, a guzzling 6-cylinder will also negatively affect your fleet FE figures, but the small turbos & hybrids can negate that.
