Aston Martin has confirmed that it will be manufacturing the RapidE, which will be the British carmaker's first-ever all-electric car. The RapidE will go into production in 2019 and the car's numbers will be limited to just 155 units across the globe.

The production-spec car will be based on the RapidE concept that was showcased a couple of years ago. Similar to the concept's development, the RapidE production model will be developed by Aston Martin in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering.

The RapidE electric car will share its underpinnings with the upcoming Rapide AMR concept, which is slated to become the most powerful Rapide ever produced. Meanwhile, the looks and dynamics of the all-electric model will be inspired by the Rapide S sedan. It will thus adorn a four-door sportscar structure. However, the 6.0-litre, V12 engine found on the Rapide S will be replaced by an all-electric powertrain.

Aston Martin hasn't released any details about the RapidE's powertrain or output figures yet. However, speculations suggest that the electric car is expected to be available in two variants - a 549 BHP rear-wheel drive version with a claimed range of around 320 km and a high performance all-wheel drive version with independent motors for each of the four wheels.
