Just hope they can fix its silhouette and overall shape which looks more jacked up hatch than an SUV. They can take some lessons from BMW who has made the dull 2 series active tourer into a handsome X1 which is clearly the pick of the segment right now.

Hit the nail on the head there, pal! As sexy as Mercedes' new cars are, the GLA-Class sticks out like a sore thumb in the lineup. It is ugly, uninspiring & boring. Mercedes really needs to get this formula right. The Q3 was always a good looker and now, there's the sexy BMW X1.

Mercedes needs to take a step forward with the GLA-Class just as BMW did with the X1 (outgoing X1 was yuck!).

Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz GLA Caught Doing Test Laps At Nurburgring.

A video footage of the next-gen Mercedes-Benz GLA doing test laps at the Nurburgring Circuit has surfaced online. The next model to join the new-generation A-Class family, the next-gen GLA crossover was spotted at the tracks along with the prototype model all-new GLB compact SUV, which is expected to be unveiled later this year. However, we only get a glimpse of the latter in this video. The new Mercedes-Benz GLA is also expected to break cover later this year as a 2019 model.

Re: Spy pics: The 2nd-gen Mercedes GLA-Class

More details regarding next generation are out:
  • Will be built on the MFA-II platform.
  • To have a crossoverish and upright design stance rather than the current flowing design.
  • To be taller by 100mm, length is down by 20mm, while the wheelbase is longer 30mm than the outgoing model.
  • Interiors will be similar to the new GLB and A-class, will have turbine style air vents, may have adjustable rear seats.
  • The petrol line-up will include the choice of a 1.3- and 2.0-litre unit developing 165hp and 228hp, respectively.
  • On the diesel front, the SUV will get the choice of a 1.5- or 2.0-litre motor, with the latter coming in two states of tune. The 1.5-litre unit will be good for 115hp, with the 2.0-litre developing either 150hp or a more potent 190hp, depending on its state of tune.
  • Joining the line-up next year will be a 218hp petrol plug-in-hybrid variant, pairing the 1.3-litre engine with a gearbox-mounted electric motor – similar to that on the new A-class. It is expected to use a 15.6kWh battery pack, giving it an all-electric range of more than 60km.
  • Also on the cards are the more performance-oriented AMG GLA 35 and 45 models, which are expected to debut in the second-half of 2020.
  • Gearbox choices will include a 6-speed manual, 7-speed automatic and an 8-speed dual-clutch auto.
  • Front-wheel drive will be standard, with Mercedes offering a revised version of its 4Matic four-wheel drive that’s capable of fully variable power apportioning to either the front or rear wheels as an option.
