Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)

Suzuki is preparing to launch a new compact on lines of the Hustler in Japan.

Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)-1a45306a.jpg

With the success of Hustler in Japan ( the cumulative sales volume until the end of April 2005 is about 320,000 units) . Hustler has been a recipient of many awards like the Japan Automobile Hall of Fame Car of the Year, RJC Car of the Year and others, Suzuki is banking on this design to repeat its success cashing on the retro and SUV trend.

The compact crossover will have similar styling in retro form with a 1000 cc engine, mild hybrid, to accommodate 5 and will have a new name!

To be unveiled by year end and will go on sale in 2018.

Not yet spelled if this car will be global but in all probability , like the Ignis will be launched in Suzuki's growing markets like Europe and Asia.

If launched in India it will slot below the Vitara Brezza and would support the road map to achieve 2 million vehicle sales by 2020.

Suzuki's lineup for India could look like this,

Ignis ( existing)
New Entry level compact ( CUV styling) - 2019
Hustler based Crossover - ( speculated - 2019)
Jimny based Gypsy - SUV( speculated - 2019)
Vitara Brezza ( existing)
S Cross- Crossover ( existing)
Grand Vitara - SUV ( speculated - 2020)

Will it be just a 1000cc version of current Hustler with same dimensions and a reworked front? If they are moving out of the Kei-specs in terms of engine size (660CC), they can come up with a stretched body as well. A wider, longer Hustler will have many takers, IMO. It can be an alternative to Ignis.

What about an all-CUV lineup for the A/A+/B segments like the following for Suzuki in India?

New entry level CUV to replace Alto
Hustler to replace Wagon-R and Celerio
This new CUV
Ignis

The dimensions will be reworked and it will be a 5 seater. The car will get a new name too.

Speculated to carry over the front design elements of the IGNIS and is expected to be a global offering.

Re: Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)

Suzuki is speculated to bring the new compact in late 2017(Dec.) . Likely to be named "KRUZ" (Cruise).

Rumored to get the 1.0l boosterjet engine. The platform is lightweight · high rigidity adopted for Ignis and solio · enhanced "collision safety" "HEARTECT".

As stated before the 'crossover' will be loosely based on Hustler and design elements of Ignis .

Dimensions are expected to be at 3700mm L X 1690 B X 1615 H, with GC of 200 mm and WB of 2435 mm.

Will come in AGS or CVT, drive system 4 WD and FF lineup.

Husler derived car is 4 WD model, weight increase such as propeller shaft etc is expected, so ~ 20.0 km / L.

Is it the same Xbee referred here? The front end seems different in both these cars - Xbee is a direct lift from Hustler, while the Kruz has Ignis traits.

Re: Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)

Suzuki New Hustler Derived model with 1.0 liter 3 cylinder engine will be released at the end of 2017.

The platform is lightweight · high rigidity adopted for Ignis and Solio · enhanced "collision safety" "HEARTECT".

Suzuki registers "KRUZ" (cruise) as a trademark in 2016, so the model name of a commercial car is undecided.

Tokyo Motor Show 2017 Xbee's vehicle size announced Total length 3760 Width 1670 Total height 1705 mm Wheel base 2435 mm.

Since the road clearance seems to be 20 mm higher than 180 mm of Ignis, the vehicle size prediction of the Hustler derivative model is full length 3700 full width 1690 total height 1615 mm wheel base 2435 mm.
Question remains - KRUZ /XBEE are 2 different vehicles?

Suzuki "XBEE"

Seems like 2 different prototypes were created and compared, and finally they selected XBee over Kruz. That may be the reason why the Kruz was not there in the Tokyo auto show. There is no point in having 2 nearly-identical cars based on Hustler design co-exist in Japan.

Looks kinda cute! We need some funky tall boys to rejig the buyers interest. Unlike the Ignis which looked wierd, this looks pleasing to the eye, for me. Wish they bring it in; who better than the market leader to set the trend.

Re: Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)

The Japanese Suzuki site shows Xbee and is costlier than Swift! Not sure whether that pricing strategy will succeed in India.

Re: Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)

Suzuki's new direct injection turbo of the X-Bee is different from Swift.

Quote:
1.0L direct injection turbo engine "K10C type" improved on what is installed in the company's small car "Swift". In the case of SWIFT, it is not combined with a mild hybrid system. Crosby is the first to install a mild hybrid system that uses a 1.0 L direct injection turbo engine
Suzuki's new Compact Crossover for Japan (2018)-02.jpg

Quote:
Swift, which is a compact car of the B segment, installs only 1.0 L direct injection turbo engine in the engine room. Crosby, on the other hand, is a segment A vehicle. In the engine room narrower than the SWIFT, a mild hybrid system that combines the engine and the BSG must be installed.

Therefore, the 1.0L direct injection turbo engine mounted in Crosby was smaller than the Swift one. While equipping a turbocharger, it was about the same size as a 1.2 L naturally aspirated engine. For miniaturization, we made the intake and exhaust pipes thinner than the swift engine. We also reviewed the arrangement of radiators and intercoolers. Through such ingenuity, it fitted in the engine room
