The modern iteration of it completed 10 years in the market this year - and hasn't received any significant updates till now. Hope FCA is not waiting for the government to come out with any coins before giving the car a proper update that it deserves.

I got a chance to drive one of these (the diesel one) a few years back.
And strictly speaking, it felt properly ordinary.
It felt no better than a cheaper Fiat panda.
And a Fiat Bravo was far better than this, in many aspects.

I think the initial euphoria has come down, and this now looks/feels nowhere as special as the MINI, like how it did when it was relaunched a decade back.

Agreed and the same is applicable to the VW Beetle too which has a very 'normal' driving experience. Both these cars - the 500 & Beetle - sell on style more than anything else.

On the other hand, the Mini Cooper is truly premium, especially when it comes to driving pleasure.

Comparing a Cooper to a 75 HP diesel 500 is like comparing apples to bowling balls.
Now the 500 SS is where it is at, cheaper, better looking and crazy sounding little car.
Mini would feel boring after.

Totally Agree! But somehow i think it is not a car enthusiasts dream. Like a car enthusiast would love to buy say an Evo - and work on it every weekend to make it faster. This car is more of a fashion statement. IMHO going fast or practicality is not even what FIAT is aiming for this.

PS: I love the Coin too.
