Chevrolet unveils 2019 Corvette ZR1 - 6.2L V8, 755 BHP and 969 Nm

Chevrolet has unveiled the 2019 Corvette ZR1. The car is based on the seventh-generation Corvette.

The ZR1 features a carbon fibre hood with an opening in the middle from where the engine's supercharger and intercooler peek out. Two aero packages are offered with the car - a low wing that is claimed to generate 70% more downforce than the Z06 and an adjustable high wing that Chevrolet claims to generate over 431 kg of downforce at the rear. Both these packages come with a new front lip. The high wing package includes a new front splitter with carbon fibre ends, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 3 tyres and chassis and magnetic ride control. Both the wings are mounted to the chassis for strength and stability.

An optional Sebring colour is offered along with matching brake calipers, contrast orange interior stitching, orange highlights on the outside, orange seat belts and a bronze aluminium interior trim. The interiors of the car feature leather seats as standard, while Napa leather seats with heating and cooling functions are offered as an option along with a carbon fibre-rimmed steering wheel, sports seats, a performance data recorder and a Bose audio system.

The ZR1 is powered by a 6.2-litre, supercharged V8 engine that makes 755 BHP and 969 Nm of torque. The engine features a direct injection as well as an additional port injection. The engine is paired to a 7-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. This is the first ZR1 to come with an and automatic option. The top speed of the car is claimed to be over 338 km/h.

The car is scheduled to go on sale around the spring of 2018.

I am purely a Mustang Fan. But still the love of muscle cars gets my attention to these fine machines. Very aggressive and mean looks will definitely be a head turner and a threat to its competitors. Sadly Chevy has left the country, hoping for more muscle cars to enter into Indian territory and see them growling on the roads.

Shmee and Doug checks out the new ZR1. Pretty interesting details, especially the famous hood which always controversial.

That is incredible on so many levels

755 BHP & almost 1000 Nm with a manual gearbox! Will be quite an experience. Floor it in any gear and the car will slide. A fitting answer from the petrolheads to all the electric vehicle treehuggers.

Until not so far back, 650 BHP was Hypercar territory (Ferrari Enzo) and 1000 BHP was obscene (Bugatti Veyron). Joining this group now is an everyday American sportscar! A car you can realistically drive to work.

Enjoy the sound!

Meh, the P100D Tesla Model S puts out 920 lb-ft of torque in it's aptly named "Ludicrous Plus" mode !

920 lb-ft is ~1,250 Nm of torque, the all-electric Tesla, looking like an electric tea-kettle, will in all probability wipe the floor with the 2019 Corvette.

I think cars like this new Corvette are huge leaps backwards in this day & age of environmental responsibility & you know, general tree-hugginess.

GM has really got to do better than this, or else every latte-sipping hippie in a Model S is going to make grown men in Corvettes cry at the lights !

I think that in the United States, the government allows cars of a given model year to be sold starting on January 1 of the previous calendar year. For example, a 2019 model year vehicle can go on sale on January 1, 2018. In Corvette's case, the car actually goes on sale in 2018 only. Maybe they will make some pieces for display / demo and advertising purposes before it officially goes on sale.

Re: Chevrolet unveils 2019 Corvette ZR1 - 6.2L V8, 755 BHP and 969 Nm

Lovely lovely car. Muscle cars have come along way from big displacement low power figures times to same displacement and much higher power figures. . The Corvette has always been unique to look at right from the get go, while newer gens of its equally gorgeous competition the Viper look quite run-of-the-mill, Chevy designers have kept pushing the envelope. And this one is as sharp as a knife! Wonder why Dodge aren't upping the design game.... or is it that they cant really outdo the original Viper's (IMO one of the most vicious looking cars ever made) design?

I was waiting for someone to say that .

The Tesla might be quicker, but in EVs, there's none of that pleasure that comes from working an internal-combustion-engine.

Tesla is like the healthy pizza with no carbs, a cauliflower base & fresh veggies on top; the Corvette is the double-cheese burst pepperoni! The former is the smarter choice, but the latter is the one that satisfies you like no other.
