These are the first spy shots of the next gen BMW M3 codenamed the G80;





^ The test mule shows wider track and fenders front & rear, quad exhaust tips, trunk spoiler lip, and more aggressive bodywork, It has standard mirrors which will be replaced with M specific mirrors at a later stage (probably still under design development)

Spy shots of the next-generation BMW M3 have surfaced online. The car will rival the Mercedes-AMG C63 and is expected to be revealed in 2019.

The new M3 will be based on BMW’s CLAR structure that also underpins the 5-Series and 7-Series. This structure uses aluminium and high-strength steel. It is also reported that the car will get a carbon fibre roof among other body panels.

The overall shape of the car is similar to the current-generation 3-Series. The test mule was wearing a heavily camouflaged body and was seen with pre-production spec headlights and tail lights, large disc brakes and the quad-exhaust tips. The new M3 is expected to be longer than the current model by 60 mm and its wheelbase is expected to be 20 mm longer as well. However, it is also expected to be lighter than the current model.

The new M3 will be powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder, petrol engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger. This engine is the same unit as the one in the current-generation car. However, it is expected to be tweaked to develop 465 BHP - 11 BHP more than the current-generation M3 CS. The engine is likely to use a water-injected system like the one found in the M4 GTS.

The engine is expected to be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The car is expected to be available with rear-wheel drive only.

The new M3 is expected to go on sale from 2020.

Why is the front and rear wheel alloy design different?

The new M3 and M4 due to be launched in mid 2020 will be getting manual transmission options as well.

With the automobile industry leaning more towards faster, user-friendly automatic transmissions, the ancient manual transmission is very much a dying breed. Even the recently revealed Corvette C8 has ditched the manual. It looks like BMW isn’t looking to succumb to the trend just yet. BMW M boss, Markus Flasch, has told a publication that the next-gen M3 and M4 will be offered with a manual transmission option. This latest news is surprising, but a welcome move from BMW to cater to those who prefer to experience more of a car’s character over user-friendly gizmos.

According to a media report, the next-generation BMW M3 will come with all-wheel drive in higher variants.



The report suggests that the car will be powered by a six-cylinder engine and will get at least two different power outputs. The lower variants of the M3 are expected to come with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, while the higher, more powerful variants could come with the xDrive all-wheel drive system and an automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive system will be similar to that of the M5 and could get a 2WD mode. The cheaper variants could also get a different wheel design, fabric and alcantara upholstery, bespoke instrument cluster and a special paint job.

Higher variants of the M3 are expected to be called the Competition. The line-up will also consist of the M4 coupe, M4 cabriolet and the M4 Gran Coupe. The cabriolet will get a soft top.

Oh my goodness! NO way, no way are they rolling out M3s with a front end like that. The nightmare of the X7 is still fresh in my mind and BMW is planning to unleash another one.
I'm paranoid that this "design" will be carried forward to the non M cars in the future.

Though many websites say this may be the M3, but i have a feeling this face is of the M4 (going by the recently revealed 4 series concept).

Or, this might be the regular 4 series too.

I think its time we all accepted the fact that new BMW's are going to have front ends like this and move on. Definitely not a fan but we can't do anything about it so...
