Loved the way it changed lanes. Absolutely no body roll. Would be interesting to see a moose test (it would nail it).
Thanks to the rear axle steering At high speeds both axles turn synchronously and at low speeds they work opposite to each other. Since the rear axle steering is not mechanically linked, the steering angle is adjusted based on the yaw moment of the vehicle and hence lane changes are brilliantly executed with least amount of roll possible.

This car, like all S Classes is fantastic. The somewhat sporty looks add to the car - and probably make it appeal to a younger generation of multi millionaires (presume you need to be worth at least USD 5 mm to afford one). Am somewhat ambivalent about the new super large touch screen - especially since it comes at the cost of the physical controllers for the MBUX system. Interiors seem great - I really liked the red ones. Suspect the entry level S350Ld will be upwards of ₹1.5 cr here. Not something I will buy - but perhaps I will get a chance to ride in one should our CEO buy it.

The newer car launches are slowly marking the End Of An Era in designing, silently. Be it the RR Ghost or S-Class or 7s all of them have transformed from an elegant sophisticated machine to a sportier radical one. And no need to mention about the concrete slab like screens for the interiors.

I hope that these newer generations will slowly grow on me, slowly. Long live W222!

One of the reasons for this is that the average age of the buyers of these luxury barges is coming down and hence it should appeal to the relatively younger population in the years to come.

China is the largest global market for the S-class (followed by the United States and then South Korea). Mercedes sold a record 694,200 vehicles there last year even as the Chinese auto market dipped by 8.2 percent.
Excellent article on how important still the S-Class is to Mercedes against the backdrop of the rise in SUV sales, the GLS popularity and the massive rise in Tesla Model S sales.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class Edit: now unveiled

A question being debated since the unveil of the New S Class.

Is The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Better Looking Than Its Predecessor?

Seem to attract the younger generation but has mixed reactions less to the exteriors and more to the interiors.

Quote:
1. The most controversial part of the new S-Class is its rear end design. Could Mercedes have done a better job there?

2. S-Class’ interior was inspired by the world of luxury yachts, which is fine, but would anybody be doing simple, minimalist cabins with huge portrait-style screens if it wasn’t for Tesla and how successful they’ve been? Which begs the question: is a simplified design good or bad when it comes to luxury cars?

I am 33 years old. I find this to be sacriligeous to what is expected from an S-Class to look, both outside and inside. What category do I belong in? young or old?

I cannot believe this is the S-Class it looks like a lower segment coupe model, again inside and out, I cannot believe someone actually green lit this to be the final design for their flagship sedan. I imagine the previous S-Class owners are grinning from side to side having still held on to theirs.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class Edit: now unveiled

The Interior of the S Class looks amazing but this one isnt as much as of a leapfrog in technology like the 2014 was. Even 6 years Later the W222 still has most of the modern tech you would expect from a car of this day and age.
Regarding the interior, S Class has had the same design of the interior from W221 so this is a nice refresh. Thankfully Mercedes is not going the BMW way on interiors. The Horizontal wood slats are refreshing and give it a very upscale look.

Luxury car buyers also like technology and with the upcoming competition technology is a very big basis for a purchase. They are competing against Tesla Model S. The only reason the W222 survived the Model S tech was because none of the Teslas compete with the S when it comes to luxury and comfort and W222 still had the 70% of Tesla's Tech regarding autonomous driving.

Regarding the exterior, Long Live the W222. The Front end looks really bland unlike the 2014 or the 2018 facelift and the rear end makes it look like a lower segment/mid segment car. Rear end does not give it a stately look but I would love to see it in person because the size and the presence really make a difference when it comes to cars rather than Photo Ops.

I am hoping to get another S class in my stable but would definitely depend upon the seeing it in person. The W222 I bought it without even seeing in person.

Merc’s 2021 S-Class Can Turn Its Rear Wheels Up To 10 Degrees.

Quote:
Making the system used by the S-Class particularly interesting is the fact that its optional rear-axle steering system can turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels at low speeds. To put that into perspective, the 991-generation Porsche 911, which has pioneered rear-axle steering on modern performance cars, only turns its rear wheels up to 2.8 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels at low speeds.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class Edit: now unveiled

When I first saw the 2021 S class I did not like it, I thought it will eventually grow on me. I saw it after a few days I still did not like it but then recently I saw the horrendous grills of BMW M3/M4 (even the BMW 7 series for that matter) I started to love the new design element of the S class. When you've got such helpful competitors who help in making your car feel less ugly by coming up with even uglier designs, what more can one ask for and that's how the Germans lost their timeless elegant designs.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class Edit: now unveiled

The media drives happened last week and the embargo is lifted. Here are some reviews, but in German unfortunately.

https://www.golem.de/news/probefahrt...10-151753.html

https://www.motor1.com/reviews/45118...s-first-drive/

https://www.adac.de/rund-ums-fahrzeu...edes-s-klasse/

While the S350d isnt an exciting car to drive, the petrol engines with mild hybrid makes the car launch and pick up speeds like a rocket, even though that is not the way it must be driven But technology as taken a pretty good step ahead in this car, though the looks and interiors might not be to everyones liking, including me. I would have preferred the 222s interiors and the 223s tech.
