What you see ahead of the instrument panel is HUD projector (it is not a screen, though it looks like one in this image)

If they have a huge screen like HUD why do they still need to place a physical screen behind the steering wheel?
I am told that the physical instrument screen is a regulatory requirement in some countries even if HUD is available.

Suspiciously BMW-esque head and tail lamps (and general front end design too I would say). When I saw those camoflaged shots I thought they were dummies ::

Would have posted this on the Memes threads but felt it's relevant here! The rear of the S Class does resembles from the Sonata!

Still furious about the generic styling and the slab screen plonked on the dashboard.

But just LOOK at that steering wheel.

Though wonder if there are any tactile buttons left, or all are capacitive ones.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

I guess the resale value of the W222 just got boosted. Rather surprised to see the design of the supposed best car in the world be so heavily influenced by Hyundai, and the cabin by the almost decade old Tesla Model S. This at a time when many manufacturers are consciously trying to move away from touchscreens based on consumer feedback. It is unlikely that Mercedes will be able to match the UX and UI provided by Tesla and it’s inherent software culture. Goes to show how much of a thorn Elon is proving to be for Stuttgart.

Lets wait until we see it in the metal. People voiced negative opinions over the previous S-Classes when pre-launch spy shots hit the media but post launch, everybody loved it.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

A follow-up to the incredible W222 was never going to be easy! But this is like giving the turf away!

As a young boy growing up in the world of cars, I was firmly in the BMW camp. And when they lost their way with design on most cars around mid noughties, Mercedes started coming up with stunning cars to offer some solace. But it really looks like another brand is biting the dust. What we see here will trickle down and I do not like that thought one bit.

By the way, I like the Audi camp a lot nowadays. Starting with that glorious RS 6 station wagon! What a machine that is!

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

After looking at this, the current W222 seems to be a keeper.

When it comes to opulence and luxury a large part of it goes into the way buttons and materials interact with the owner of the car.
Having a 50 inch tv inside a car is not opulent. It is impractical, hampers functionality of simple tasks and is juvenilish. A ride in a Tesla proves this. If screen size decided luxury, Tesla would be RR. Even the Volvo screen is not slick or an acceptable alternative to hard buttons.

Just that screen on the new S is a massive let down.

Give us buttons, MB. Buttons are good!

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

It seems like the rear of every Mercedes sedan models from the A class to the S class is going to be the same.

As some members have mentioned, the rear really looks like a Chinese or Korean design (or is that what they are actually aiming for, since China is the fastest growing market for german luxury sedans). If this is indeed the S class, it no longer oozes the Charisma and seems to have lost the Magestic appearance somewhere between the lines.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

Although the current generations is leaps ahead in terms of the S Class' exterior, I can definitely see myself coming to like the new look over time. What pains me like most others is the removal of physical buttons; I for one don't like taking my eyes off the road while driving and even if these cars have "new and improved" voice recognition and everything I would find myself accidentally looking down at the screen to perform some function. I sincerely hope Mercedes does not adopt this interior style for its new cars.

Also, is it just me that saw the rear and thought it looked like a shorter and wider rear of the Toyota Fortuner (especially those tail lamps)

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

I guess we have to wait for the official images to be released to see how that screen lights up and then we will get a picture of what the designers were trying to achieve. Its the most imp car for mercedes and I'm sure they wouldn't have made a mistake (although it appears like they did)

The massive tablet as pointed out looks like one of those screens you put on an older car to make it modern !

By doing away with buttons, the interior looses out on those lovely aluminium bits which add class & style to the interior iMHO.

Also a S Class is about luxury and lovely surfaces to touch and feel. A massive touchscreen like that isn't a fit here.

Re: Spy Pics: 2021 Mercedes S-Class (next-gen)

W223 teaser render posted by Mercedes-Benz's official social media pages. Front looks much better than what the spy shots suggest. Keeps more in line with the 'stately' identity of the S-Class I feel.
