Ferrari Pista revealed - Ferrari's most powerful production V8 ever

Today, the Italian supercar maker has released a set of images of the car. It also boasts the company’s most powerful V8 engine.

Ferrari has confirmed the the 488 Pista is a hardcore tuned version of the standard 488 and a successor of the 458 Speciale.

It is powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine which produces 711 bhp and 770 Nm of torque. This allows it to race from 0-62mph in 2.85 seconds, 0-124mph in 7.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 211mph.

Quote:
The name Pista is a nod to its performance as means ‘track’ in Italian.

Compared to the 488 GTB, the new model weighs 90kg less, with an overall kerb weight of 1,280kg (dry). Aerodynamic efficiency has also been improved for the Pista edition.

Among the racing solutions adopted is the front F1-inspired S-Duct and the design of the front diffusers which feature a ramp angle that was optimised for the 488 GTE to create strong suction for increased downforce. The rear diffuser incorporates the same double kink as the 488 GTE to increase the air extraction and downforce generation. In addition to this the rear blown spoiler is higher and longer, helping direct the airflow more efficiently. All the aerodynamic changes have resulted in an 20 per cent increase in downforce.

Now, this is the proper definition of hardcore. 911 GT3 RS should be scared. VERY SCARED.

re: Ferrari Pista revealed - Ferrari's most powerful production V8 ever

I don't know if Ferrari is running out of creative designers or are just trying to maximize their profits by introducing variants of the same original 458 design which was introduced way back in 2010.

Over the years Ferrari has become more and more of collectors car than a drivers car. Lamborghini and McLaren seem to be doing more justice to the driving part of super cars.

Hopefully this is their answer to the 720S and Performante's of the world.

Btw it seems this is the most Powerful production V8 by Ferrari as there are other V8s which are more powerful made by other manufacturers(Dodge Demon & Corvette ZR1 are few that come to my mind)

Reminds me of the F2008 with its complex box wing at the front.

But this looks great in comparison. And quite sure its an engineering marvel. Ferrari doesn't need help there.

Where it needs help is for naming the cars. Pista is such a ridiculous name!

They are deliberately selecting the worse option from both Italian and English. Some examples are SuperFast, LaFerrari and now Pista.

Terrible names! Sure, SuperVeloce is taken by Lambo and Ferrari will have to pick something else, but you get the drift.

'Pista' in Italian means racetrack. Thats not really bad!

I would have preferred Speciale like the 458. Hope this one can stand up to the McLaren 720S though. Love the body work.

Re: Ferrari Pista revealed - Ferrari's most powerful production V8 ever

According to this video, it does 0-100 in 2.26 seconds and 0-200 in 6.94 seconds. Does it make it faster than the Chiron ?

Currently the standing for 0-100 are as follows-
Porsche Spyder 918 - 2.2
Tesla S P100D - 2.28 (Ludacris mode)
Bugatti Chiron - 2.3

Re: Ferrari Pista revealed - Ferrari's most powerful production V8 ever

Ferrari 488 Pista Spider makes unexpected premiere at Pebble Beach.

Quote:
the Pista Spider is powered by a truly brutal twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine delivering 711 hp and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. Consequently, the Pista Spider achieves the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 2.85 seconds, exactly the same as its sibling.

If drivers have enough room, the car can reach 124 mph (200 km/h) from a standstill in 8 seconds, 0.4 seconds slower than the coupe and continue through to a 211 mph (340 km/h) top speed
