I like the fact that new S60 will have only petrol engines. And even in the lowest spec, the engine will produce 250BHP. This is so nice. I am sick of the premium cars on sale in our market that actually have punny power output (the lower trims of XE, XF, Q3).

Any idea when the new S60 will be launched in India? And whether it will be loally made?

...Speaking to Cara&Bike, Charles Frump, Managing Director - Volvo Car India said "I think with the S60, we are all excited that it's coming to the country. The car is currently being produced in the United states and we are looking at the possibility of bringing it to India. Chances are that now it's going to be in 2020 rather than 2019. But certainly that car will be coming"

As per the previous articles I came across, this model is manufactured in South Carolina, US, and will mostly be imported as a CBU and that's why it's getting delayed due to exchange rates, correct me if i'm wrong on this part, as I've been interested in this model since sometime now and the dates are getting pushed each time i read the news.

We are considering local assembly (for the new S60). That's the decision that has taken us a bit of time to sort out, but we haven't made a final decision on that as yet.

- said Frump.

The decision to assemble the new S60 locally right from the start is also influenced in part by India's ongoing trade-related issues with the USA, which is where the S60 is currently manufactured.

Volvo's plant in Charleston, South Carolina is the global production site for the new S60, and the trade issues that have cropped up could present logistical problems for Volvo if it chooses to import the S60 from the USA to India.

But regardless of the route the company takes, Frump said the S60 will be launched in India in 2020 as there is strong demand for the car.

We may even have to bring the S60 in as a CBU first, but we'll get it here next year one way or another- said Frump.

Volvo S60 to launch this festive season.

The S60 tester had the base turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 with 250 hp, but the same engine can be had with a supercharger bolted to it for 316 hp with all-wheel drive for an extra $4,500. A plug-in hybrid powertrain ups output to 400 hp and the price by $19,995. Don’t spend up for the more powerful engine options. The 2.0-liter turbo-4 is the smoothest operator of the bunch and there’s plenty of punch to get the S60 moving no matter the conditions, especially on winter tires.

If design, easy-to-use technology, and safety rank high on the priority list, then the 2020 Volvo S60 should be on a contender.
