Its nearly 80 years history, German carmaker Volkswagen has restyled the way its logo looked no more than eight or nine times. That’s one new logo per decade, on average.



The change in logo comes as it prepares for the electric-car era and tries to re-create an image tarnished by the diesel-cheating scandal.

the new logo will be designed to look just as good on the car’s front and rear hoods as it will do on modern day communication devices.

Reasoning:

The brand is not in good shape compared to previous years. It’s not only because of the diesel scandal. We want people to have fun with us. We need to get more colorful

Disappointing news to be honest. Leave aside the tarnished image due to scandals but “we need to get colourful”? What does that even mean? That statement itself shows immaturity.

I hope they don’t make a drastic change to the logo. That’ll cause greater damage.

If they want to be more youthful, they should take a leaf out of the sheer brilliance of Mercedes-Benz’s book. Oh, how they gracefully transitioned from an old man’s brand to a brand which is appraised from people of all ages.

Volkswagen to present its new logo and brand design by mid 2019.

In future, Volkswagen will steer its marketing activities via three lead agencies which will operate four new creative powerhouses in the brand’s key regions.

- Omnicom Group will take care of its image in Europe and South America, WPP in North America and Cheil in China

-Global agency network Volkswagen brand to be reduced from about 40 agencies to three lead agencies

The changes in marketing will focus on four main areas. In the product area, the key topics in 2019 will be the eighth-generation Golf and the ID.

Expected to become operational in 2020, the new platform will include everything from car selection to contract conclusion, including financing, payment and even used car trade-ins, the only thing left to do for the customer being picking up the car once it arrives.

Spied 2020 Golf Mk8 shows the New Volkswagen Logo ?

It’s about time for a new logo and 2019 will bring it, as confirmed by the automaker last year. Apparently, chances are you have already seen it without even knowing.
That’s because the new VW logo has been hiding in plain sight, more specifically on the virtually undisguised Golf Mk8 prototypes that got spied last week

New Logo:

As with the new Golf, the VW logo adopts a cautious, evolutionary design.

Compared to the current version (seen above), the “V” and “W” letters are slimmer and the gap between them seems to be bigger. Furthermore, the lower end of the “W” doesn’t make contact with the surrounding circle anymore. Overall, the emblem looks more old-school than the current one — more retro if you like.

World premiere for “New Volkswagen” at the IAA.

-the brand is presenting its new logo and its new brand design to the public under the motto of “New Volkswagen”.

With the new brand design, “New Volkswagen” will become visible and perceptible in the design of the vehicles, in customer contacts and in the corporate presentation as a whole. The objective is to create a new 360° customer experience that is modern and fascinating throughout the world and across all channels. Volkswagen’s Chief Designer Klaus Bischoff, who played a key role in the development of the new CI, said: “The new brand design reflects a type of mobility that forms a natural part of people’s lives. Volkswagen has always been a key element in these efforts. In the new age of mobility, the motto is ‘digital first’, without any filters.”

In contrast to normal practice in the industry, the new brand design was not developed by external agencies but by a joint team of Volkswagen Design and Marketing. The design was implemented with the full integration of all departments of the company in the record time of nine months using a powerhouse concept developed by Volkswagen especially for this purpose.

The new presentation will not only be bolder and more colorful but will also be digitally oriented from the brand logo through to the world of images. The brand’s visual language will be very different from that projected by Volkswagen to date.

Volkwagen tries to atone its sins ( scandals) by giving it a new logo.

Volkswagen is to ditch its distinctive three-dimensional VW blue and white badge for a flat black and white version.



The new black and white VW logo signifies a fresh start for Volkswagen Group after the emissions scandal in 2015 and also signifies the car maker's move into electric vehicles.

The new black and white logo appeared in Volkswagen’s Hello Light advertisement for the upcoming re-born Microbus with a matte finish. Autoweek speculates that the VW badge will have a reflective finish on cars, with the first vehicle to display it being the eighth-generation Golf model.

Volkswagen has used a male voice to present its vehicles and for advertising purposes. The brand is now to become female. On almost all markets, a woman with a warm, pleasant and confident voice will speak for Volkswagen.

Not sure how someone can justify spending a lot money & effort to VW's management team for a simple (subtle) logo change. I dont think this change will even fall under re branding.

This is certainly rebranding, as the logo needed to stick to its core design without drifting too far away. At the level theyre operating, even a minute change will mean a big shift. This is in fact a throwback to 1949 and echoes the purity and values that endeared VW to the masses then. Let's just hope they have learned their lesson and will move forward with integrity.
