Global Launch of the car today: 22nd April 2018

With a view to shrugging off remnants of the diesel gate scam, VW will be attempting to break the Colorado Hill climb record in an electric vehicle.

Dubbed as the "Volkswagen ID R Pikes Peak" the car is a four-wheel-drive, electric-powered prototype which has been designed to compete in the 2018 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June. Its much-awaited prototype will be unveiled in France on Sunday, April 22, 2018. The new machine will be shown at an event on Sunday, before an on-track testing programme for its record attempt on the 156-turn, 19.98-kilometre mountain begins the following day.

The machine has only been shown in computer-generated images, so far. It has been developed by VW's motorsport arm as an attempt to showcase the performance capabilities of contemporary electric drive systems.

Few more pics of the same. Got them from a whatsapp group. 680PS and 650Nm was the power and torque outputs that were mentioned though I dont know if that's the real figures.

If the beastie has enough juice then this should be a cinch. After all a dc motor has maximum torque at stall. So this is right up their strength.
