There's a comment in that thread that says he's legally not entitled to return an erroneous product.
But it's worth a ton of money on the streets as a collector's item given it's highly secretive development process. Not usable in any form in the current set of cars though, so there's no practical aspect to it.

Unless someone makes a DIY clutch converter system of sorts.

There’s all sorts of weird and wonderful legal expertise available online. He’d be well advised to return the thing ASAP. The original owner can and probably will sue for its return.

This article is wrt UK law but the law in question is similar across many countries.

From the thread:

My claim to similar fame is that someone once ordered a Logitech Driving Wheel as a gift for me, and amazon sent me the one that cost 3x as much!

However, in my case and this clutch case -- it's probably the OEM/distributor that sent the wrong parts / mislabeled them. The Amazon part of the transaction worked fine.

The recipient is in the USA, and so UK jurisdiction may not apply. Furthermore, depending on the state in the USA, the laws vary, so it becomes even further to determine.

Thus, I went by a comment on the thread. Besides, it's not Amazon's fault, because they couldn't have known. So it's now a situation where ZF has to reach out to the receiver in the USA and that seems unlikely.
