Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

Skoda officially confirmed the Kodiaq vRS. The Kodiaq Sportline version which we had seen earlier had only cosmetic modifications.

The Skoda Kodiaq RS on the other hand will have the 2.0-litre BiTDI twin-turbo diesel engine that puts out 177 kW (240 PS) and 500 Nm of torque.

Skoda has released a teaser video showing the new range-topping Skoda Kodiaq being driven around the legendary Nordschleife for a record attempt.

The Skoda Kodiaq RS will have a more aggressive exterior with a unique front bumper with larger air intakes, 20-inch alloy wheels in distinctive design, individually designed rear bumper and dual exhaust tailpipes. The RS variant is likely to feature an all-black interior with top-of-the-line equipment as well as sport seats, RS logo on the door sills and seat covers and aluminium-finish pedals.

While the Skoda Kodiaq Sportline was only about sporty styling, the Skoda Kodiaq RS will add performance enhancements. While the Skoda Octavia RS is available with a 6-speed manual transmission as well, the Skoda Kodiaq RS may come with only the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. Availability of an AWD system is a given. The performance-oriented Skoda Kodiaq will likely sit lower by a few millimetres. It could have the capability to complete a 0-100 km/h in about 8 seconds.

The Skoda Kodiaq RS will have its world debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October. Skoda will release the full video of the SUV’s record-breaking lap attempt by racing driver Sabine Schmitz on the Nordschleife on 14 June.

Wow! It'll make a solid case for itself. In that price band, there is no real performance crossover. Similar to the Octavia vRS which is expensive, but there's nothing like it for the same money. The Kodiaq by itself is an outstanding SUV; with the vRS goodies, it'll easily have a following. Those who can stretch a bit though (and customers in that price band are flexible) will go up to the 3.0L diesel / turbo-petrol Germans.

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

The Kodiaq is surely a great looking car & with the RS treatment it will truly become EPIC

Skoda Octavia RS (facelift) globally in most markets went on sale around April 2017 & launched in India on 1st September 2017 (i.e. within 5 months)

Likewise if the Kodiaq RS is scheduled for a global debut/launch around October 2018, optimistically Should launch in India by March 2019

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

Kodiaq RS can be considered in league with the 3 German trio. The current power output figures(148 bhp) doesn't justify the Kodiaq's size and price point.

Kodiaq(at 4697 mm) can't be compared to entry level german cars like X1(4439), GLA(4424), Q3(4385) it is significantly larger than these cars. So a better comparison will be with X3(4657), GLC(4656), Q5(4663) and if we talk about the power output figures of them it is 190,168,190 bhp respectively. So on papers it seems to be under powered and the same will be on road too if I am not wrong.

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

Next set of teasers as the unveil comes closer,

Quote:
The first SUV from the Czech brand to get the RS treatment is back this week to show the 20-inch Xtreme wheels (yes, that’s their actual name) featuring a swanky two-tone look that would’ve looked out of place some 10 years ago on a Skoda.

Those sporty-looking calipers hug 17-inch brake discs and provide the necessary stopping power to match the twin-turbodiesel engine underneath the hood producing 236 horsepower (176 kilowatts). Other visible design cues include the radiator grille, window frames, and the roof rails – all of which come with a glossy black finish.

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

Skoda drops in another teaser of the Kodiaq RS,

The photos reveal spacious interior cabin in full, complete with sports seats featuring integrated headrests.

Fitted as standard equipment, the seats feature Alcantara for the backrests and are adorned with red contrasting stitching and perforated Alcantara sections for extra pizzazz. The lateral support provided by these seats comes from the chunky side bolsters covered in what Skoda refers to as “carbon leather” also noticeable on the central armrest as well as on the armrests on the door panels.
The new RS logo sits proudly not just on the body-hugging seats, but also on the steering wheel where there’s additional red stitching to complete the look. Skoda has covered the door panels in black Alcantara with black stitching and has finished the headliner in black to make it a bit more special than the regular Kodiaq. The carbon-esque theme of the instrument panel completes the look, while the stainless steel pedals come as standard

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

As always, a good question to ask is what kind of premium will be acceptable for the Kodiaq vRS compared to the normal version. The 2.0TDI 176kW engine is available in the Tiguan here. The price premium for a Highline 2.0TDI 176kW (240hp) AWD version over a Highline 2.0TDI 110kW (150hp) AWD version is a whopping €15000 (or €9000 excluding the car tax). With a similar price premium in India, the Kodiaq vRS could very well cost north of 50L OTR.

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

Skoda Kodiaq is just days before its unveil, now seen testing camouflaged.

Quote:
The most powerful version of the Czech SUV still maintains a discreet black camouflage band extending through the lower section of the front bumper, the only detail of the camouflaged bodywork, concealing large air intakes in the front fender.

Re: Skoda confirms the Kodiaq vRS

The one reason Skoda is still alive in India despite all the horror stories of Sales/Service is they bring out cars like this! Hope they bring it here soon enough!
