| Senior - BHPian  | Volvo plans 25% recycled plastic on cars from 2025 Thanks to BHPian CrAzY dRiVeR for sharing this information with other enthusiasts! Volvo Cars has announced that they are looking to use 25% recycled plastics on every new car from 2025. To demonstrate this ambition, they have produced a Volvo XC60 with recycled plastics. The one-off XC60 looks identical to the production version. However, in this car, 170 parts have been replaced with parts containing recycled materials. This has resulted in the use of over 60kg of recycled material. The tunnel console of the car is made from renewable plastics from discarded fishing nets and marine ropes, while the floor carpets consist of fibres from recycled plastic PET bottles and recycled cotton from cloth manufacturing unit's wastage. The seats also use PET fibres and the under-hood insulation is made from old car seats. The company has requested auto industry suppliers to develop sustainable products. Last month, it was also announced that Volvo will be eliminating single-use plastics from all its facilities worldwide by the end 2019. It also aims to have climate neutral manufacturing operations by 2025. As a start, the Skovde engine plant has become the company's first climate neutral unit. Volvo has already committed to launch only hybrid and electric cars from 2019 and has also stopped offering diesel engines on its newer products, starting with the S60 sedan.
