The 1800 BHP Dendrobium D-1 electric hypercar

20% more power and 25% more torque than the Chiron along with a name you can't pronounce is a quick one-liner for the Dendobrium.

We haven’t heard much about the Dendrobium D-1 since the model was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last year, but it’s inching closer to production as the Dendrobium Automotive company has been established in the United Kingdom.

Lead by CEO Nigel Gordon-Stewart, the company will take the D-1 “into its next phase of development.” As the executive explained, “We are designing our own in-house all-electric powertrain and we plan to use our own power storage cells [before] moving to solid state [batteries], as and when the technology is reliable and financially viable.”

While a lot of work still needs to be done, the company laid out some ambitious targets. The most notable is its intended output of 1,800 hp (1,342 kW / 1,825 PS) and 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque.

While electric vehicles have a tendency to be heavy, Dendrobium is targeting of weight of just 3858 lbs (1,750 kg). In order to this target, the D-1 will use a unique “Protocell” carbon fiber tub. The company declined to elaborate, but Dendrobium board member Jens Sverdrup said “The car is all carbon fiber, advanced composites and alloys which are super light and super strong.”

Additional specifications – such as the car’s range and recharging time – will be released in the coming months, but the company said the model will come equipped with a unique “bio-aerial locomotion door and roof opening system.”

The Dendrobium D-1 will be presented to the public for the first time, in the United Kingdom, at Salon Privé which kicks off on August 30th. There’s no word on when the model will go into production but the car will eventually be built in the UK and offered globally. If everything goes according to plan, the “Dendrobium brand will become synonymous with the most exciting and technically sophisticated e-hypercars on the market.”

With so much going into this hypercar they could also give it a name that sounds like one rather than a flower that grows in your garden.
