Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?

The second generation Honda Brio has been unveiled at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). It is based on the Honda Small RS Concept which was shown earlier this year.

Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?-brioindonesia6.jpg

The new Brio gets a revised front end featuring a gloss black grille flanked by sweptback headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs. The new front bumper has a wide airdam with circular fog lamps on either side. Like the current Brio, the new model has sharp feature lines on its sides. It has blacked-out B-pillars and ORVMs with integrated turn signals. Moving to the rear, the car has new tail lamps and a more conventional rear tail gate with a roof spoiler. It also has a dual-tone rear bumper and 15-inch alloy wheels. Lower variants of the car get a chrome grille and single-tone 14-inch rims.

On the interior, the car gets a redesigned dashboard with silver accents and a gloss black center console with a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It has a 3-spoke, multi-function steering wheel and a 3-pod instrument cluster. Beige colour seats get integrated headrests at the front and adjustable ones for all 3 occupants at the back.

An RS variant gets all-black interiors with orange highlights, blackened front grille and retuned suspension.

In Indonesia, the new Brio is offered with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 89 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 110 Nm of torque @ 4,800 rpm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and CVT.

Re: Honda Brio : Test Drive & Review

Aaaaaand Honda continues to dissapoint!

The same interiors from the old Brio are carried on - atleast they could have upgraded the quality of the budget grade materials.

They have not even changed the steering wheel design which is now 7 years old.

The seat also appears to be the same but now with adjustable headrests.

So good looking unlike recent Honda designs - but is this all new or a very deep facelift?

Honda loses the glass hatch

Yuck! economy grade interior - familiarity breeds contempt - we wont be considering this car as a replacement for the our 6 year old Brio for sure.

re: Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?

Dead on arrival !

This just looks like deep facelift and not an all new model.

Existing Brio owners will not consider as the interiors are the same.

What a let down, I was really excited about this car.

It is also high time that Honda throws that crappy little 1.2 motor, which they keep flogging in the trash heap.

Please dont bring this car to India, Honda, it will be a bigger flop than the previous Brio.

re: Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?

Now we're just looking at pictures so it could change when we see this in person but at first glance, this looks awfully disproportionate. The rear has gotten better (relative to the current Brio) but now it resembles a Jazz. Terribly confusing styling.

Unless the car as a package (features, pricing etc.) are blockbuster, unlikely that this is going to excite many.

Is it just me or does the rear of the new Brio look very similar to the Tata Tiago?

I don't get it. Isn't the new Amaze based on the same concept that this is supposed to be based on? Then how does that look all new while this looks merely like a nip and tuck job? Even the interiors in this one are the same as the last facelift.

This is nothing more that a thorough exterior facelift. The side profile and especially the pillars and door panels are a direct giveaway. Interiors are the same as before, as is the engine.

Honda seems to be trying to pull a fast one here

Even they don't believe it - hence named it "All new Brio Satya (True. )"

On a serious note - I do agree with you. Seems like a reworked front and rear end on the existing car - everything else seems to be the same.

Design elements are vastly different, except the similar front end. Amaze has a very flat window and shoulder line right from the Bonnet till the boot. The design seems to be planned keeping an upcoming SUV in mind.

Old Brio with new Amaze headlights and taillights with a conventional tailgate and same interiors. Slow for Honda!! They really know how to dilute a brand!! If it comes to India, guaranteed DOA!!

re: Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?

Anyone knows why the Honda logo is different on this Brio? It doesn't sport the traditional "H" logo at the rear.

Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?-brioindonesia2.jpg

Edit - Found the answer.

Seems like Brio Satya gets this different logo. It is a entry level model build for the Low Cost Green Car scheme in their country (similar to the Indian small car rule) which gets the 1.2L engine whereas normal Brio gets a 1.3L engine there.

Brio Satya based on the earlier gen -

I do see some updates in the interior (all in the rear) and useful ones in my opinion.
the ones I noticed are
1- adjustable headrests and 3 of them
2- relocated power window switch. placed in similar manner as in front
3- a bottle holder in door panel
4- a larger, usable boot (at first glance , waiting for actual word from them)
i know they are all minor but exactly the stuff i wish i have in my brio

Re: Indonesia: New Honda Brio unveiled. Facelift or a new generation?

After driving the Amaze, one thing was certain - it's a big step ahead of the old Amaze. I had thought that a hatchback version of the Amaze is only logical considering the improvements & stellar market response (did over 10,000 dispatches last month).

But Honda has missed an opportunity here. Instead of bringing an Amaze hatchback, they have merely improved the flopped + cheap Brio a little bit. What a disappointment. Honda better not bring it here as it'll be a waste of time. But don't let the idea of the Amaze hatchback die just yet.
