Toyota plans to sell its entire stake in Isuzu

Toyota has revealed that it is planning to sell its entire stake in Isuzu. The former holds 50 million shares in Isuzu, which amounts to 5.89% of the total number of shares issued.

With changing market conditions, both companies have had to shelve some joint-venture projects. Along with this, progress on other collaborations was slower than expected, making Isuzu and Toyota re-examine their capital relationship based on present market conditions.

Back in November 2006, both the Japanese companies signed a basic agreement to make use of each other’s operational resources in the development of diesel engines, to provide mutual technical assistance and to examine the feasibility of joint projects. Toyota had also agreed to purchase a stake in Isuzu.

Re: Toyota plans to sell its entire stake in Isuzu

Firstly, incredible choice of picture Kanad !

Toyota wants nothing from Isuzu anymore. They'd tied up primarily for diesel engines, and now diesel has become a bad word. Plus, there's little to show for their long partnership. I think Toyota was just helping out Isuzu as a Japanese big brother.

Isuzu is too tiny at the global level. My prediction is it will tie-up with another manufacturer sooner rather than later.

Re: Toyota plans to sell its entire stake in Isuzu

Two Names that can make use of ISUZU to the fullest are

Suzuki motor corporation which makes small cars but lacks SUVs and recently tied up with Toyota for small cars. Isuzu can hopefully make Suzuki more relevant amongst major players once again if executed properly.

and

Mahindra which has worked previously with ISUZU under SML Isuzu (Punjab Tractors) and needs visibility for its Ssanyong Lineup which is not selling in most countries where Isuzu is present. Mahindra's Ssangyong acquisition still didnt put it on the world map like JLR did for Tata. While Isuzu is no Land Rover, its build quality and reliability is excellent.

Toyota takes 8% share, JV for next-gen connected truck.

Quote:
Toyota and its commercial trucks subsidiary Hino have announced today that it will be forming a new joint venture company with Isuzu, the world’s largest diesel engine manufacturer and Japan’s oldest motor vehicle manufacturer, to develop the next generation commercial trucks.

All three companies will form a new company called Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation. Based in Tokyo, the company will be 80 percent owned by Toyota, with the rest split evenly between Hino and Isuzu.
