Mk4 Octavia will make use of an updated version of the VW Group’s venerable MQB architecture, enabling both plug-in hybrid and 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrains to appear in a Skoda for the first time.

Improvements in practicality will be targeted, but the Octavia hatchback will retain its longer, saloon-inspired shape

The good news is a new report indicates the fourth generation will revert to traditional headlights.

It should weigh a little bit less than today’s model. Engines will include an upgraded 1.5 TSI with up to 200 horsepower and a new 1.5-liter diesel to replace the existing 1.6 TDI. The Octavia RS will pack as much as 250 hp, presumably from a tweaked 2.0 TSI.

The second version from the French magazine looks just right, whereas the one from Auto Express looks like it was designed only with straight lines.

Hopefully the French are proven right in this case.

Downsizing of engines hits the Octavia also - with the future being a 1.5 petrol and a 1.5L diesel engine. Future D segment cars will have current C segment displacement engines, while future C segment cars are getting ready for current hatchback sized engines.

PS: If the small car rules in India won't change till then - Octavia might get a slight tax benefit for the smaller than 1.5L diesel engine.

The estate version looks so much better than the Auto Express rendering!

I'll be happy to see the classic headlamps back. In my opinion, the split lamps just seem like an afterthought.

With many countries in Europe going away from fossil fuel-powered cars and Volkswagen planning to shift its focus to electric vehicles in the coming years, it is obvious that the new platform would be suitable for electric / hybrid powertrains.

Coming to conventional powerplants, a 1.5 TSI with 200 BHP is being talked about. Despite the downsizing, its sounds powerful enough. The 250 BHP RS should keep enthusiasts satisfied as well.

Skoda is all set to unveil its Octavia by mid 2019. Set for coupe look and electrification.

expect it to have the same wheelbase as the existing model, maintaining a useful advantage in rear-seat accommodation over its rivals.

The biggest difference could come in styling, which should feature plenty of sophisticated details. Expect these to include a more complex bonnet, with extra creases, as Skoda tries to add emotion to its already-established design principles.

Isn't the current Octy well within it's life cycle, why is the next version coming so early? I think the current version came to our shores in 2014. Or, does Skoda sees the shift to e-versions so compelling!!

Skoda has always been making excellent car designs for Octavia/Laura, except may be for the 2014-17 version.
The 2019 looks fabulous and brings fresh looks. Over the years skoda octavia looks have changed quite a bit, with every facelift bringing new design cues.
I am not sure if I can say the same about BMW and Audi, it feels their designers have taken a long hibernation and outsourced design uplifts to Apple iPhone engineers, who keep changing size of front grill along with subtle electronic changes. (Pun Intended)

Next-gen Skoda Octavia to launch in India by end-2020.

The next-gen Skoda Octavia will sit on an updated version of the VW Group’s MQB platform and will be slightly larger than the outgoing car.

On the inside, the new Octavia is likely to be more premium with better-quality material and a long list of features like voice control, head-up display and soft-touch materials. Expect the dashboard layout to be similar (to some extent) to the one seen on the Skoda Scala.

Under the hood, the new Octavia will come with a long list of petrol and diesel engine options, globally. Skoda is likely to offer a 48V mild-hybrid on some engine options. For India, the new Octavia is likely to come with a 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. Skoda is also studying the viability of upgrading the 2.0-litre diesel to meet BS6 emission norms

Just wanted to get your opinion on this - Is it worth buying the Octavia 1.8TSI spending 30 lakhs now or wait for the 2020 Octavia which will be launched in Q1 or Q2 2020.

2020 Skoda Octavia spied

The car spied on test didn’t have the conventional camouflage around it. Instead, Skoda had smartly covered the car in body-color tapes, masks and fake panels. Considering that it maybe introduced in 2020 or a little later, Skoda will have to make the Octavia BS-VI emission norms compliant. We can expect a full reveal at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

the prototype is pretty much undisguised, but there’s a lot of camouflage finished in the same color as the real body to hide the car’s final design. Despite the disguise, we can still make out some of the details, such as the one-piece headlights that will replace the current model’s controversial split layout introduced with the mid-cycle refresh. At the back, the taillights remain hidden underneath some tape, but it’s easy to notice the clusters are going to extend onto the tailgate with its gently curved shape.
