Russia: Kalashnikov CV-1 claims to be a Tesla-rivalling electric car

Kalashnikov, the Russian manufacturing giant best known for its AK47 assault rifle, has unveiled the CV-1, a retro-styled 295bhp electric car that it claimed offers Tesla-rivalling performance.

It is a vehicle that is said to be inspired by Soviet-made hatchback 'Izh Kombi' from the 1970s.

Quote:
The car will be able to achieve range of around 217 miles on a single charge of its 90-kilowatt battery. Kalashnikov also said that it would have a higher top speed than a typical EV.
No pricing for the CV-1 has been revealed yet.

The car have being receiving mixed reactions online, with some saying the design was 'cool' while others blasted it for being 'ugly' and even 'zombie-like'

Quote:
The prototype CV-1 was launched at the Army 2018 International Military Technical Forum in Kubinka, Russia. The car’s styling is based on the 1970s Izh 2125 Combi. The CV-1 uses modular batteries, with a total capacity of 90kWh, which Kalashnikov says are powered through a “revolutionary inverter” that measures 50x50x100cm and propel the car a total of 354 kilometres.
Quote:
While no specifics have been revealed about the CV-1’s motor, Kalashnikov cites an output of 295bhp, with a claimed 0-100kph time of around six seconds.
Quote:
According to the RIA-Novosti news agency's press office, a Kalashnikov spokesperson said, “This technology will let us stand in the ranks of global electric car products such as Tesla and be their competitors.”

Thanks for an interesting information.

295 bhp seems too much. Is there any typo? And what range does the company specify for thus car?

Those headlights are made up of what look like cheap chinese DRL worth ₹400 pair. I doubt if it's even legit, maybe an April 1st joke that got delayed?

295 bhp as per reported in ACI. https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...ric-car-409483

The claimed range is 217 miles. That's approximately 350 kms.

The claimed max speed of car is 50 mph, which is equal to 80 kmph.

I saw this news being covered by most of international media! But is that for real?

This one looks like a brick for it to be an all-electric car. Like someone dusted off a Lada from the 80s.

I think there is a certain sexiness to such retro designs.

But with reference to the claims, all I can say is . At the concept stage, every company thinks of their one-off showpiece (which usually cannot even complete a Mumbai-Lonavla run) as the greatest thing since sliced bread. When it actually comes to translating all that talk into action, it thins out.

The real rivals to Tesla are coming from established car makers in Europe, North-America, Japan & China (in that order).

Eww! Look at those panel gaps. At least they could have painted it black to hide them.

This seriously seems more of a joke than reality. They picked up an old Lada and put some embellishments.

Last year, they made an electric motorbike prototype
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...torcycles.html

But their website does not say anything about their electric vehicles at all

Honestly I like this retro design...especially the front, but the rear is awkward. It's a prototype so the panel gaps are all not to be taken seriously. Why only the panel gaps, I would not take the entire concept vehicle itself not too seriously right now because as GTO mentioned, it's only when they can meet the claims, that it can be considered a competition to the likes of tesla.
PS: From the pictures I think the material is like a cheap fibre material that is usually seen in boats
