As part of the ELECTRIC FOR ALL campaign launched today, the brand will be putting attractive models at affordable prices on the road, paving the way for the breakthrough of electric vehicles. The electric offensive is based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB), a technology platform developed specifically for electric vehicles.

- VW Group plans 10 million EVs in 'first wave' - on its MEB platform. Targets launch of worldwide mass production toward the end of 2022.

-VW will build 27 models for four group brands based on the MEB -- or modular electrification kit -- starting with the Volkswagen ID model that will begin rolling off the production line at its plant in Zwickau, Germany

- VW is pushing into volume production of electric cars as it sees an opportunity as TESLA continues its struggle in its Model 3 production.

- Brand plans to sell some 150,000 electric cars, including 100,000 ID. models made in Germany, by 2020

-Production of the Volkswagen ID., the world’s first series vehicle based on the MEB, will begin in Zwickau at the end of 2019.

This is like VW's brilliant MQB platform, but this time for electric instead of petrol / diesel. Amazing how they can build everything from small cars to luxury cars on one platform.

This is the right approach. Electric cars designed from the ground up are better than petrol / diesel cars modified to accommodate electric motors.

The centerpiece of the MEB is the rolling chassis without the bodywork and interior, shown exactly as it will be used in production cars. VW says the MEB enables “a hitherto un-achievable price-service ratio” and will be the key to its “electric car for all".

By the end of 2022, four of the automaker’s brands will sell 27 MEB-based models worldwide, ranging from compact cars to the Bulli.

VW I.D. is caught testing in South Africa for first time. It is the first EV model from VW group based on all new MEB platform. I.D. will be similar to Golf in size. VW is currently giving test drives for the media.

Few timelines and specs of the VW I.D.:

• VW will start pre-orders in first half of 2019 for this car.

• Production will start at the end of 2019 and deliveries to start in Europe from early 2020.

• It will come in 3 battery sizes: 48 KWh, 62 KWh and 83 KWh with ranges from 300 KM to 500 KM.

- To cost the same as “a modern Golf diesel"

- Base models will get a smaller battery pack for 206 miles (331 km) of range

The I.D. will support up to 125 kW fast charging, allowing for an 80-percent (about 250 miles) charge in just 30 minutes. VW will also offer an 11 kW home charging option.

Ordering system will be similar to the TESLA's.

Volkswagen plans 22 million electric vehicles in ten years.





- Almost 70 new electric models by 2028 – instead of the 50 previously planned

As a result, the projected number of vehicles to be built on the Group’s electric platforms in the next decade will increase from 15 million to 22 million.

The first of the new-generation electric vehicles go into production this year: the AUDI e-tron1 will be followed by the Porsche Taycan2. Reservations for each of these models already total 20,000 units.

And electric vehicles will be brought into the mainstream with the ramp up of the Volkswagen ID. Other models in this first wave will be the ID. CROZZ2*, the SEAT el-born2*, the ŠKODA Vision E2*, the ID. BUZZ2* , and the ID. VIZZION2

In order to support the electric offensive, LG Chem, SKI, CATL and Samsung were selected as strategic battery cell suppliers.

Volkswagen Previews All-Electric Full-Size SUV. ID Roomzz concept will debut in Shanghai.

The SUV will launch in China in 2021.

Just like the compact I.D., the I.D. CROZZ, the I.D. BUZZ, the I.D. VIZZION and the I.D. BUGGY before it, the sixth member of the fully electric family is based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB).

The I.D. ROOMZZ has a number of innovations on board: as its name suggests, the concept car sets trendsetting impulses when it comes to variability of the vehicle interior, boasting completely new seat configurations, high-quality materials and customizable light. What is more, the IQ.DRIVE systems are brought together in the I.D. ROOMZZ:in I.D. Pilot mode, the vehicle can be driven autonomously without an active driver (level 4).

The concept vehicle will feature a customizable interior with "completely new seat configurations," the automaker says. Like other ID vehicles, it will sit on Volkswagen's MEB platform for electric vehicles. It is capable of Level 4 autonomy, which the SAE defines as being able to operate without human oversight under certain conditions.

The ID. ROOMZZ will be presented to the public at Auto Shanghai 2019, one of the largest automotive trade shows in China, from 18 to 26 April.

Combining the IQ.DRIVE systems: When in ID. Pilot mode, the concept car can drive autonomously without an active driver.

The ID. ROOMZZ combines future IQ.DRIVE systems – on request it can glide fully automatically (Level 4) through the traffic in ID. Pilot mode. The vehicle occupants are provided with information via interactive light zones.

The completely new variable interior concept can be individualised to a great extent. Various seating configurations can be adapted not only to passengers’ personal wishes, but also to the respective driving mode.

When the driver switches to fully automatic driving mode, the individual seats can be rotated inward by 25 degrees to enable a more communicative, lounge-like atmosphere on board. Moreover, when the car is driving fully automatically, the ID. Pilot Relax mode allows each passenger to adjust their seat individually to suit their needs. In this mode, the seat can be moved from an upright to a reclined position.

With its 82-kWh battery, the ID. ROOMZZ boasts a range of up to 450 km (WLTP) or 475 km (NEDC, China), respectively before the battery has to be recharged. In about half an hour, the concept car can be recharged to 80% of its capacity via a fast charging system with 150 kW (DC).

VW ID Roomzz unveiled in Shanghai

This is a large, five-metre long car, whose focus is on interior space and versatility, hence the four large suicide doors that open like a reverse handclap for ease of access. Sadly, those reverse-hinged doors are not bound for production cars (and nor are the cameras for door mirrors, scuppered by cost).

The ID Roomzz features ID Pilot mode, which allows for full hands-off, level 4 driverless mode, you see - freeing up the cabin to double up as your sitting room.

Drivers place their hand on the VW badge on the steering wheel for at least five seconds to enable autonomous mode; the wheel then moves discretely out of the way, freeing up more space for the interior lounge effect.

The seats themselves have three different modes: they can be configured in the following layouts:
•ID Drive mode Normal front-facing configuration for regular driving
•ID Pilot mode All seats rotate 25deg towards each other for a more social space
•ID Pilot Relax mode Each seat can be fully adjusted individually




































The new ID Roomzz is a powerful crossover, with two electric motors: the front axle is powered by a 75kW motor, while the rear axle boasts an output of 150kW. Under normal driving conditions, it’s rear-wheel drive but the front wheels come to life under full throttle or if slip is detected, activating all-wheel drive 4Motion mode.

With 225kW in total (equivalent of 302bhp), this large car is impressively fleet of foot. Volkswagen quotes 0-62mph in 6.6sec and top speed is capped at 112mph (the limit that’s likely to spread like wildfire across most cars.

the lithium-ion battery pack has a 82kWh capacity, which brings a 280-mile range on the latest European WLTP combined cycle. VW says the ID Roomzz can charge at up to 150kW DC; on rapid charge, that means the battery can be topped up to 80% in around half an hour.

VW EVs Will Have Batteries Designed To “Last As Long As The Cars” - Well almost!

Volkswagen is preparing to introduce the ID Neo later this year and now here is more on the car’s battery pack.

Battery pack to “last as long as the cars.” Of course, this is relative as battery performance declines with age and repeated charging

- Battery pack will have a minimum capacity of 70 percent for eight years or 99,419 miles (160,000 km).

- To maximize the life of the battery pack, drivers should limit their use of rapid chargers and only charge the battery to 80 percent.

-80 percent charge is “more than enough” in most cases as a majority of trips are relatively short and typically involve driving to work or going shopping.

-As for range, the modular battery pack will allow drivers to travel up to 342 miles (550 km) on a single charge.

-Significant advances in lithium-ion technology in the coming years, but the next “big leap” in performance will likely come from solid-state batteries.

Solid-state batteries are seen as a bit of a holy grail for electric vehicles, however, they could be ready sometime between 2025 and 2030.
