Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Ford Recalls 5,50,000 vehicle or roll-away concerns.

Quote:
Ford has issued a recall covering approximately 550,000 examples of the 2013-2016 Ford Fusion sedan and the 2013-2014 Ford Escape SUV. The vehicles were built in three separate facilities -- Flat Rock and Louisville in the US, and Hermosillo in Mexico -- and carry build dates between June 18, 2013 and Aug. 31, 2015. Approximately 504,000 of these cars are in the US, with the rest split between Canada and Mexico.

The problem stems from the transmission -- or, rather, a part connected to it. A bushing responsible for holding the shifter cable in the transmission might detach. If that happens, the transmission might be in a different gear than what the driver may think it's in. For example, you might put the car in Park, and the dashboard would show Park, but the car would still be in gear.

Obviously, that presents a major safety issue, as unintended vehicle movement can cause harm to the car, a structure it's parked in or the driver and occupants. Thankfully, Ford has received no notifications of accidents or injuries related to this problem.

Remedying the issue is straightforward. When the car is dropped off at a dealership, technicians will replace the shifter cable bushing in question. In the interim, Ford suggests that owners of affected vehicles use the parking brake every time the car is placed in Park. That way, even if it's still in gear, the parking brake will keep it from moving unintentionally.

2017 Ford EcoSport recalled in Australia.

Quote:
Ford Australia has issued a recall for "certain" 2017 Ecosport models over concerns a faulty front lower control arm could cause steering impairment and/or loss of power.

The Blue Oval reports that improper welds are to blame for the issue, which could cause the front wheel assembly to hit the wheelhouse and the fenders.

Additionally, the company says the condition could cause the front wheels to lock up, affecting steering control and a "loss of forward movement".

Affected Ecosports were manufactured from 3 May 2017 through 10 June 2017

US: VW Tiguan recalled over fire risk

Volkswagen has recalled the Tiguan in the US over risk of fire, which could be caused by a short-circuit in the decorative LED lighting in the panoramic sunroof.

The Global *Recalls* Thread-2018volkswagentiguanfirstdrive.jpg

A total of 45,457 Tiguans fitted with panoramic sunroofs manufactured between December 8, 2016 and July 8, 2018 have been recalled.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), high humidity in the panoramic sunroof LED lighting module could cause a short-circuit, which could start a fire.

To fix this issue, the LED light module on the affected cars will be disconnected from its power supply. This is just a temporary fix and the feature will be reactivated in a future service campaign once a permanent solution is found for the issue. The recall will begin on September 11, 2018.

Toyota plans to recall 1 million hybrid models over wiring issue.

Article
Quote:
Toyota Motor Corp said on Wednesday it planned to recall around 1.03 million vehicles, including its gasoline-hybrid Prius model, in Japan, North America, Europe and other regions due to an issue with the engine wire harness which can pose a fire risk.

Following a domestic recall announcement by Japan's transport ministry, Toyota said that in affected vehicles, the wire harness which connects to the hybrid power control unit can come into contact with the covering at the connection point.

If dust accumulates on the wire harness or the cover, the insulation on the wires could wear down over time due to vehicle vibrations. This could cause an electrical short circuit, which could generate heat and lead to a risk of fire
, Toyota said.

The issue affects vehicles produced in Japan between June 2015 and May 2018, and includes the plug-in version of the Prius and the C-HR compact crossover SUV sold in Japan, Europe, Australia and other countries. Roughly half of the recalls would take place in Japan, Toyota spokesman Jean-Yves Jault said. Only the Prius model would be recalled in the United States, where around 192,000 vehicles were affected, he said.

Jault added that the issue had led to one incident of a short circuiting in Japan which produced smoke from the vehicle.

Ford Recalls 2 Million F-150 Trucks In North America For Fire Risk
Seat belt pretensioners could ignite gases in the popular pickup.

Quote:
The best-selling vehicle in America is the subject of a new recall. Ford’s ultra-popular F-150 pickup is under the microscope over faulty seat belt pretensioners that – under certain circumstances – could spark and ignite gases in the interior, which could then lead to a rather frightening vehicle fire. The recall affects just under two million trucks throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico built from 2014 through August of this year.

The problem lies specifically with seat belt pretensioners on the front seats. The components are designed to quickly tighten seatbelts in the event of a sudden deceleration like you’d have in a collision. The pretensioners in the F-150 are located in the B-pillar and can expel gases when they deploy. In some cases, Ford has also found excessive sparks during deployment, which can ignite the gases in the B-pillar. Should this happen, there’s a chance that flammable materials such as insulation and carpet in the B-pillar could catch fire.

This has actually happened according to Ford, though no injuries or accidents have occurred as a result. The automaker is aware of 23 cases – 17 in the U.S. and six in Canada – where either smoke or fire was present as a result of the pretensioners. The issue specifically affects F-150s built at Ford’s Dearborn plant from March 12, 2014 through August 23, 2018, and at the Kansas City factory from August 20, 2014 through the same date as Dearborn. The problem affects 2015 through 2018 model-year trucks.

Interestingly enough, Ford’s fix does not involve replacing the seat belt pretensioners. Rather, dealers will pull some flammable material out of the B-pillar and add heat resistant tape to the rest, including wiring harnesses, carpeting, and insulation. The back interior panels of regular cab trucks will also be modified, though Ford doesn’t explain exactly what that means.

GM recalling 1 million Pickup trucks, SUVs for Steering Problems

Article :
Quote:
Power steering assist could momentarily cut out on 2015 model-year full-size vehicles.
General Motors is recalling a whole bunch of pickup trucks and full-size SUVs for another round of potential steering issues. Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a safety recall for just over 1 million GM vehicles over problems with the electric power steering that could lead to a momentary loss of power to the steering system.

Specifically, the NHTSA says the problem affects only 2015 model year vehicles, including the Escalade as well as the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and both the GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pickup trucks. An exact breakdown of production dates isn’t available, but the recall affects 1,015,918 GM vehicles in all.

If this sounds a bit familiar, it should. Just over a year ago GM recalled select 2014 model year Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks for troubles with the electric power steering. ... According to the NHTSA, the fix involves updating the EPS module software.

This announcement comes just a couple weeks after Ford issued a massive recall for its F-150 pickup over seat belt pretensionsers that could ignite gases, potentially leading to a fire.

2019 Toyota C-HR (US): 700 Units recalled

Due to "rear axle hub bearing bolts, one, or potentially more of which many have not been properly tightened at the factory", which can obviously have potentially catastrophic consequences, 700 units of the 2019 Toyota C-HR have been recalled in the US.

The Wheels Literally Fall Off the Toyota C-HR

While there's been a prompt recall, and I understand no factory is infallible, this is a shocking QC miss.

Senate panel wants Hyundai, Kia to testify on engine fire reports!

The request comes after the Center for Auto Safety raised concerns last week about fires in vehicles not involved in collisions.

Quote:
In May 2017, NHTSA opened a formal investigation into the recall of nearly 1.7 million Hyundai and Kia vehicles over engine defects.

A South Korean whistleblower in 2016 reported concerns to NHTSA, which has been probing the timeliness of three recalls carried out in the United States and whether they covered enough vehicles.

Ford recalls 1.5 million Ford Focus cars in North America that could stall with fuel tank problem

Quote:
Ford Motor is recalling 1.46 million Ford Focus cars in North America to fix a defect that could lead to stalling.

The recall affects the 2012 through 2018 model-year Focus with 2-liter GDI and 2-liter GTDI engines.
The issue stems from a defective canister purge valve that could become stuck in an open position, causing deformation of the fuel tank.

In certain instances, the defect could cause the Focus to stall and then not restart or have difficulty restarting. Car owners may notice an indicator light or a fuel gauge delivering inaccurate levels.

The recall includes about 1.28 million cars in the U.S., 136,000 in Canada and 45,000 in Mexico.

The company said it had not identified any crashes connected to the defect.

Ford dealers will repair the cars for free. Technicians will reprogram a powertrain module with new software and will replace various parts, including the canister purge valve, if necessary.

Customers will be notified directly if they're affected.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Hyundai and Kia could be in deep trouble.

Hyundai, Kia Owners File Lawsuit Due To Engine Fire Risks.

Quote:
According to the 41-page lawsuit, engines of the affected Hyundai and Kia cars allegedly contain manufacturing defects that cause non-collision fires. The fire was supposedly caused by the lack of lubrication, brought about by the design flaw that “restricts or blocks oil flow to the engine’s moving parts, such as connecting rod bearings, prematurely wearing out those parts to the point that the engine parts seize, which stops engine operation while running. Engine seizure often causes internal parts, such as the connecting rods, to break and knock a hole in the engine, permitting fluids to leak and ignite a fire
Quote:
The lawsuit also cited that there have been 350 complaints of the said fire risk that were submitted to NHTSA. The affected models were 2011-2019 Hyundai Sonata, as well as Kia Optima and Sportage of same model year; 2012-2019 model years of Kia Sorento and Soul; and 2013-2019 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport – all powered by the gasoline direct injection (GDI) Theta II turbocharged 2.0-liter and naturally-aspirated 2.4-liter engines.
Quote:
the lawsuit also mentioned that the Congress has been alerted of the said safety risks among these cars and that the government unit has requested Hyundai and Kia to appear and answer to the allegations. Unfortunately, the automakers have failed to appear before the Congress as of the lawsuit’s date.

Ford is recalling 874,000 pickup trucks in North America for fire risks.
Quote:
Ford Motor said Friday it is recalling 874,000 pickup trucks in North America with engine block heaters for fire risks.

The second largest U.S. automaker said the recall covers some 2015-2019 Ford F-150 trucks, along with the 2017-2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, and F-550 Super Duty pick-up trucks.

Ford said water and contaminants may get into the block heater cable's splice connector, causing corrosion and damage and potentially a fire. Ford told U.S. regulators it is aware of reports of three fires in Canada linked to the issue, but unaware of any reports of accidents or injuries.

The recall covers 410,000 vehicles in the United States and about 464,000 in Canada. Ford dealers will inspect and seal the block heater cable, or replace it if necessary. The recall will begin early next month.
