Indeed, VW’s Czech-arm has revealed its next car will be called the Scala. A hatchback designed to compete with the Ford Focus, Vauxhall Astra and Kia Ceed (not to mention the VW Golf and Seat Leon…), the Scala will be revealed later this year. Set to replace the ancient Rapid in the line-up, it will look like a toned-down version of the Vision RS Concept presented at this year’s Paris Motor Show. No doubt the first cars will be the sensible, economical ones. But hopefully once the Scala has been on sale for a while, Skoda will tone it back up again and give us the proper vRS we really, really want. We’re promised the Scala is a “big step forward in design and technology” for Skoda (in Latin the word Scala actually means ‘stairs’), and that it will offer “features so far found only in the higher-class segment”. |
Here's a glimpse inside the Skoda Scala, the company’s new Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf rival, and it looks like it’ll be a bit posh. Not only are the days of Skodas being a bit rubbish long gone, but the days of Skodas being slightly cheaper relations of VWs might be passing, too. The Scala gets a newly techy layout that promises the largest screen displays in the class. There are two of them: the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ dials and gauges which first appeared inside the Audi TT, and a central media screen that stands tall of the dashboard. You can expect the same software as other VW Group cars spread across them. The Scala will always be online, too, we’re promised, with all the enveloping connectivity that brings. There’ll be no escaping those WhatsApp groups. Other treats include ambient lighting that’s switchable through several colours, the option of suede-aping microfibre seats and the biggest boot space in the class, at 467 litres with the rear seats in place (and over 1,400 with them flipped down). |

I think we have a car from Renault with same name in India, Scala. Skoda can't launch this car in Indian market with same name. |

The Scala was discontinued by Renault some time back. Skoda can launch this hatchback as Scala here. |

Isn't Scala the next gen. replacement for the European Rapid? |

Won't share too many details, but I can tell you that Team-BHP will be part of the Scala's global unveiling. And because we're part of it, I have a very good feeling that Skoda India has intentions of bringing it here :D. |

The Scala will be launched with the intent to dominate the hatchback segment, which is currently ruled by the Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Astra and the Ford Focus. |
The focal point of the interior concept in the ŠKODA SCALA is the display – with a size of up to 9.2 inches, it’s the largest in this vehicle segment and perfectly positioned in the driver’s and front passenger’s field of vision. This free-standing, central display is framed by a character line that echoes the emotive contours of the bonnet. Below the display, this line also creates an ergonomic wrist rest for operating the touchscreen. |

Globally Scala is the replacement to Rapid spaceback and will be in the premium segment ( hatchback) Not sure if they will bring it here, or maybe it will lead to an iteration for the Gen. Next Skoda Rapid for India. Link |
