Rumour: Ertiga-based crossover to be unveiled by end-2019

Suzuki Ertiga-based crossover slated for end-2019 reveal

Suzuki Ertiga-based CROSSOVER will get unique front and rear bumpers and additional body cladding.

Quote:
In the coming months, as reported, the Ertiga is set to receive a new diesel engine and there’s also a premium, six-seat version in the works.

However, apart from the Six seater version,
the MPV will spawn even more versions in the future.

A leaked internal document from Suzuki Indonesia has revealed plans for a CROSSOVER based on the Ertiga. The new model is slated to be revealed in the latter part of 2019.

This new derivative based on the Ertiga is expected to share its body panels with the standard model but will get embellishments to give it a beefier look.

The Ertiga crossover will likely come with chunky front and rear bumpers and additional body cladding.

Different design and, perhaps, even larger alloy wheels could be part of the package as well.
In the coming months, as reported, the Ertiga is set to receive a new diesel engine and there’s also a premium, six-seat version in the works.

However, the MPV will spawn even more versions in the future.

Rumour: Ertiga-based crossover to be unveiled by end-2019

According to a leaked document, Suzuki Indonesia is planning to unveil a new crossover SUV based on the second generation Ertiga. The new model is expected to be unveiled by end-2019.

Rumour: Ertiga-based crossover to be unveiled by end-2019-ertigasuv.jpg

Details about the new crossover are scarce at this moment. But, we can expect the car to feature a more rugged look. While it might share some of its exterior styling elements with the Ertiga, the crossover could get additional bits like chunky wheel arches, body cladding and bumpers with skid plates.

The SUV version might get the same powertrain options as the Ertiga. In India, the Ertiga is offered with two engine options - a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol with 103 BHP and 138 Nm of torque and a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 89 BHP and 200 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic.

It is not yet known if Maruti Suzuki will introduce the Ertiga-based SUV in India.

Hope they don't do something like the BR-V. Styling is incredibly important to a crossover; I would say that it's one of the "make it or break it" factors. A crossover is usually positioned higher too. I was disappointed with the new Ertiga's build & quality at the existing price point (even the cheaper Santro had better overall quality).

Could this be the Creta rival we heard about recently - link (Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020).

Who cares? People will buy it eyes shut when it's a Maruti .

When I first saw the rear of Ritz, I was sure it'd be a dud. We all know the sales numbers it got.

Re: Rumour: Ertiga-based crossover to be unveiled by end-2019

Why would they have another Ertiga based crossover for India, when the 6 seat version of Ertiga is speculated to launch through NEXA?

Link (Rumour: Maruti Ertiga to get 6-seat variant with captain seats)

The only logical conclusion would be, this crossover is Indonesia specific only.

Already they have plans of a SUV ( Grand Vitara ?) for debuting in 2020.

Re: Rumour: Ertiga-based crossover to be unveiled by end-2019

The six seater is basically the ertiga itself with captain seats, and other small changes like faux leather seat covers etc. Contrary to speculation, this must be launched within Arena itself as a top of the line model. It may also have the 1.5 diesel engine, while lower variants will probably continue with 1.3 diesel engine.

The crossover will be substantially different from the ertiga (larger tyres, higher gc, retuned suspension, body cladding, improved interiors, aggressive exterior looks, etc) and should get launched in nexa by the end of the year. This may carry a different badge name, and have multiple variants (Delta, zeta, etc).

OT -
Are you referring to the new 2nd Gen
or the 1st Gen? According to me 1st Gen was better. Is the review coming out soon for the 2nd Gen?

I have credible information that this is coming to India. And it is just not cosmetic add-ons but has sheet metal changes as well.

Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga based crossover coming in late 2019 . Will get a new name and will be the first MPV retailing through its premium channel NEXA.

- Will differentiate in looks than Ertiga

- Will be a 6 seater ( captain seats) and will be feature rich

- Expensive than Ertiga and will be priced closer to Mahindra's Marrazo

Quote:
Expect the Nexa version of the Ertiga to start from over Rs 8.5 lakh, with the top version being priced upwards of Rs 12 lakh.

Could this be the Toyota-Rush? Suzuki has already supplied a car to Toyota, next is Toyota's turn to give a car to Suzuki. As Corolla is not on the cards and no other Toyota cars in India can be given to Suzuki, Rush is a possibility.

Maruti calls even an engine or variant additions as a "new product" so I honestly dont expect anything new apart from the rumoured six-seat Ertiga for Nexa, atleast this year.

Interesting !! Am I seeing a bigger grill here(and possibly bigger headlamps!!) ?

Wish we could get a front view, as that seem to be the only change(Side and rear looks same), Even the wheels look same to me
Ertiga currently lacks a cruise control option(being a capable cruiser)

I can see flared wheel arches, roof rails and a different grill compared to the current Ertiga. All the above can be done as a "soft update" to the car, and I am sure there won't be any change to the sheet metal design. This will be some thing like the Celerio -> Celerio Cross transformation.
