Koenigsegg's new hypercar revealed - World's first 300 mph car!

Koenigsegg has revealed the successor of the Agera RS and its named after the founder Christian’s father, Jesko, the man who helped him set up company.

So Koenigsegg just shrugged and built its own, from scratch, except it’s even smarter, smaller and, at 90kg, a lot lighter the Chiron’s. Pull the two-stage paddle half way and you’ll swap down one gear (shifts take 20 to 30 millseconds), pull it all the way and it’ll jump to the gear that offers the best acceleration at that time. Because, y’know, when you’re driving a Koenigsegg you need all the help you can get with overtakes. Koenigsegg’s evocative name for the system is UPOD – Ultimate Power on Demand.

Here are some amazing stats about the Jesko (which I thought would be much more talked about than the Gemera!):

1. The Light Speed Transmission gearbox assembly just weighs 90 kgf yet handles 1600 bhp and provides a top speed of 300+mph. Plus the fact that the assembly is made up of ordinary materials, no exotic metal components!

It does not even have a fly wheel, spinning gears on either shafts are used to store inertia for energy.

It’s also pretty cool, as we don’t really have a flywheel on the outside, or a clutch, because they are all inside the casted aluminum housing. So when you’re in neutral, you have super low inertia engine with a super-lightweight crankshaft and connecting rods to the pistons. So, it’ll rev like a Formula One engine on idle. And sound completely crazy.

In many ways, it’s very simple. We have eight actuators, and eight pressure sensors. One for each hydraulic clutch. There are seven clutches, but there’s an eighth for the electronic differential. We carry that over from the Agera RS. And then there’s one actuator for reverse, and six for the forward gears, on three shafts. So, two clutches per shaft. That makes it possible to mix and match three gears in pairs.
2. Air Core wheels: lightest and strongest in the business. First made for the Agera in 2013 then the Regera in 2016. Sheer genius. Made from prepreg carbon fibre (which contains the thermosetting resin within) in an autoclave which has to separate set of pieces bonded together and expanded by basically a baloon filled with water.


3. Triplex suspension now featured at the front as well! So the Jesko remains flat even under high aero loading from the massive wing.

Koenigsegg Jesko has been revealed in production guise, more than two years after it was unveiled at the Geneva motor show in 2019.

Koenigsegg Jesko is powered by a V8 engine in conjunction with twin-turbochargers, a forged crankshaft and air injection, the Jesko produces 1262bhp when using 95-octane petrol, but this figure rises to 1578bhp when filled with E85 ethanol and peak torque is rated at 1500Nm.

The V8 engine is paired to a nine-speed transmission, which features seven wet, multi-disc clutches. With this setup the driver can change between any gear in just 20 milliseconds, making it the fastest-shifting transmission in the world, according to Koenigsegg.

The Jesko runs on an entirely new platform, unrelated to that of the outgoing Agera, and the car weighs just 1400kg in wet, road-going form.

Inside, the Jesko runs a SmartCentre infotainment touchscreen, with a SmartCluster instrument display integrated into the steering wheel.

Finished in Tang Orange Pearl paint with silver and carbonfibre accents, the colour scheme is a nod to the Koenigsegg CCR of 2004.

The first customer deliveries of the Agera successor are set to take place next spring. Prices are believed to start at £2.3 million before local taxes are applied.
