Re: Toyota & Suzuki agree to collaborate at the international level

Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki Motor Corporation:

The head of Suzuki Motor Corp says the Japanese automaker is working very closely with Toyota Motor Corporation on multiple technologies including EVs and hybrids, amongst other things.

Quote:
We are taking guidance from Toyota on EVs and other technologies. They are teaching us multiple new things . . . however, they are not expecting us to use the technology as is but adapt it according to SMC’s way of developing

Re: Toyota & Suzuki agree to collaborate at the international level

2023 Toyota Vitz for South Africa has been unveiled.

It's basically a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Will launch later this year.

I don't know why, but with the Toyota logo, it looks cool/ nice/ cute (not sure of the right adjective).

But the name is completely not in sync with me, just like Nexa Fronx.

Just noticed this one now, This version of Landy is not a twin from Toyota, but a twin of Nissan Serena.

Re: Toyota & Suzuki agree to collaborate at the international level

The extent to which Toyota has given up its intent to compete in developing markets is appalling.

Baleno being rebranded was disappointing enough, but Celerio being rebranded is the last straw (even if it is not intended for the Indian market).
God knows how many unsafe cars are being sold by "Toyota".

I have put in money for the Hycross, but the reviews of interior quality are not at all confidence inspiring.

Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Ghana Co Ltd (TTMG), Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s vehicle assembly company in the Republic of Ghana, has begun semi-knocked-down production of Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Swift hatchback in Ghana. The official announcement has come today even though the assembly operations kicked off in September 2022.

Semi-knockdown essentially is a method of vehicle assembly that the welded and painted body is imported and the components parts are assembled with body and chassis, or its parts configuration.

To mark the start of production, a ceremony was held in Ghana on January 30 in the presence of the Minister of Trade and Industry Samuel Abu Jinapor, Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Ghana Hisanobu Mochizuki, and Suzuki Managing Officer Koichi Suzuki.
Going forward, Suzuki and Toyota Tsusho will continue to strengthen and expand their alliance and tailor local production to market needs, further contributing to the development of the automobile industry in Africa.

This is the Mitusbishi version, but the current Landy is a rebaged Toyota Noah/ Voxy. The 1st gen Landy was our Versa.

Off late, the kei car segment and small MPV segment in Japan is seeing a lot of badge engineering.

The shrinking kei car market means only Daihatsu, Suzuki and Honda are making kei cars now, with the rest of Japanese manufacturers selling rebadged version of these three. the benefit also goes the other way, thus the Suzuki Landy.
