Ford under criminal investigation for emissions

According to a media report, Ford is under criminal investigations for its emission certification process.

It is claimed that Ford voluntarily disclosed potential concern to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California’s Air Resources Board. It is also reported that Ford hired external experts to evaluate its testing process after employees raised concerns.

The investigation revolves around Ford's testing procedures including road load, where the drag and resistance of the vehicles are taken into account, and coast down modes, where a vehicle slows down to a stop when power is no longer applied. It is claimed that a change in these figures can result in a discrepancy of about 7%.

The investigation is said to be in the early stages and depending on the result, Ford could face a fine.

It is also reported that real-world emissions from cars from almost all manufacturers exceed the pollution limits. The EPA is also expected to initiate more legal actions against other car manufacturers. In January, FCA reached an agreement with the US government to settle the diesel emission issues. In 2015, Volkswagen admitted to using a cheat device to alter emissions.

"Everybody lies"- Dr. Gregory House.

One by one, all manufacturers are coming under the radar ever since VW was caught out. All (but Tesla?) shall be scrutinised and I am sure they all will have hidden and manipulated emissions results from the agencies.

Re: Ford under criminal investigation for emissions

No surprise, in a competitive world everyone tries to circumvent the "rules & regulations" to gain the edge. The mightier you are (politically, economically), the more well placed you are to indulge in this.

My question is: does the consumer / customer / buyer really care about the meager differences in published numbers that it may make a great dent in sales numbers?
