Maserati to lose Ferrari as engine supplier

The Ferrari Q1 earnings call was full of information, and perhaps the biggest revelation was that Ferrari is going to stop supplying engines to Maserati. CEO Louis Camilleri broke the news, and The Motley Fool posted a transcript of the whole call online.

"Eventually, we will no longer supply engines to Maserati, which actually from our perspective is actually a good thing, both from a margin perspective, but also the fact that we can transfer a lot of the labor that's been focused on the engines to the car side of the business," Camilleri says.

This is a shame, the end of an era. It will be interesting to see if Maserati sources their engines from other FCA brands.

True. Maserati designs coupled Ferrari engines were having a desirability factor. Now with engines gone, Maserati would go down further.

Quite possible, the reason is that Maserati will focus on Gran Turismo type of cars. Ferrari engines are too frantic and expensive for it. They will either

1: Source from another manufacturer
2: Go electric

As is Maserati was losing its exclusivity. Now with Ferrari stopping the engine supply, who could be the next engine supplier? Maserati had recently announced that they would not go fully electric.

Maserati Nettuno engine.



Maserati all new 3.0-liter, twin-turbo Nettuno V6 which will power its upcoming MC20 Sportscar. This V6 developed in house by Maserati features a dry sump, an F1 derived pre-chamber combustion system and a twin injection system. The MC20 will make it world premiere this September.
