According to a media report, the Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan is scheduled to go on sale by 2022. The Tesla Model S rival could be the car maker's sixth electric model and one of 10 models expected to be released under the company's EQ brand by 2025.

It is reported that Dr. Dieter Zetsche, before stepping down, gave the green signal to the electric saloon project. The company launched the EQC electric SUV last year and it is expected to be followed by the EQA, EQV next year. The flagship EQS could come in 2021. The EQB maybe launched later followed by the EQE, which could be based on the company's MEA electric car platform.

The architecture makes use of aluminium and is designed to give future EQ cars a flat floor for better interior packaging. It is reported that despite being shorter than the current E-Class, the EQE will offer the interior space of the S-Class.

While details on the powertrain are not known, the EQE is rumoured to better the 402 BHP / 765 Nm of the EQC. The EQE is expected to get standard all-wheel drive, while a rear-wheel drive model could be launched later. The range is reported to be around 600 km.

Other features that could make it way to the production car include four-wheel steering, level 3 autonomous driving functions, active air suspension among others.

Fantastic. Due to their inherent design advantages, electric cars offer far better cabin & cargo space than their combustion-engine'd counterparts. With the EQ brand, I expect Mercedes and its enormous R&D budget to be one of the leaders in the EV space. Frankly, Tesla is about to lose its first-mover advantage and IMHO will see its customers deflect to the legacy brands.

Mercedes really need the EQS and EQE to be right first time. The EQC is a damp squid. MB are throwing belatedly a lot of money at the electric cars and are bleeding on what is a complicated model range i.e 50 Shades of "Gr"A" - the variants on this platform are mind boggling, A, A-limo, CLA, CLA Fastback, GLA, B, GLB - too many. Similarly - C,E, S convertibles.

I have not kept up with electric cars and their claimed numbers vs. reality.
Could you, or anyone with knowledge, tell me if these claimed figures of 600-700 kms are legit or they more in line with the inflated mileage figures given by manufacturers of NA engine vehicles?

If they have confirmed it, then the range might be actually 10% more as they normally understate performance figures

It is evident that Mercedes wants to take the competition head on with Tesla. But, what I fail to understand is why Mercedes is sticking to same design philosophy for all their new EQ models. For example, the current model EQC is blunt carbon copy of GLC (on which the model is based). There is no drastic design change in any new upcoming EQ models, after seeing the camouflage images.
When the buyer's age group in luxury segment is becoming younger, I'm in an opinion that there is a need for cars to become unique & stand-out in terms of design & aesthetics.

As mentioned by CEO himself, the shift of EV will be painful in many ways.
With such huge investments happening for complete electrification of models & with drastic shift into advance technologies like AI, IoT, industry 4.0 (at factory), hope Mercedes ( and many other OEMS too) gets the things absolutely right.
