New Tiguan winter test begins in the far north of Sweden. Updated model launch is expected to be in mid 2023.

The new Volkswagen Tiguan - which we expect on the market around 2024 - will in any case just get combustion engines again. In addition, the Tiguan again comes with plug-in hybrid powertrains. It is quite possible that even an all-electric Tiguan will appear. If that is the case, then that does not seem to be an ID model, as if it could of course be that Volkswagen will call that car packed with electrical engineering 'ID Tiguan' or perhaps 'Tiguan-e'. Volkswagen may be able to squeeze an electric powertrain into the further developed MQB platform.

While the ICE version of the New Tiguan is being tested, its electric version is likely to debut in 2025.

It comes in the size of the Tiguan will not be based on the well-known ID. design.

Electric Tiguan based on MEB+

The new electric Tiguan is based on the modified Modular Electric Platform (MEB+) and will receive the standardized batteries from the Group's own cell factory in Salzgitter. Production of the unit cell will start there in 2025. For the production of the model in Wolfsburg, the plant will be converted for around half a billion euros.

The MEB+ is characterized by an improved charging speed of between 175 and 200 kW and an improved range of up to 700 kilometers. The platform also offers automated driving functions and an improved digital infrastructure.

Volkswagen has already tested technical components for the upcoming E-Tiguan here. Of course, no design features can be derived with this model. VW is currently working on an e-design line that serves more the classic and well-known vehicle design. The electric Tiguan, like the ID. Golf, which is also based on the MEB+, should not be dissimilar to the combustion models. The Tiguan certainly shows a closed grille at the front as well as a further development of the well-known LED clasps.

the new Tiguan is less boxy than its predecessor as VW opted for a more rounded design akin to the electric ID.4. The Wolfsburg-based marque says it has stretched the vehicle by 32 millimeters (1.25 inches) to 4551 mm (179.1 in) while height is up by 5 mm (0.2 in) to 1640 mm (64.5 in). The width and wheelbase have been carried over, at 1939 mm (76.3 in) and 2681 mm (105.5 in), respectively.

With VW promising to end sales of cars equipped with combustion engines in Europe by 2033, this is likely the last generation of the ICE-powered Tiguan in Europe.

Looks promising, though they'll alter the features and wheel design for the Indian market.
The diesel isn't coming for sure, so my guess would be that it'll continue with the current 2.0 TSI, although I want to see a higher power output (the 245hp one).
My opinion would be that the electric Tiguan will make more sense for India rather than the ID.4 GTX.
Also, will they assemble it locally??

I think the new Tiguan will not come to India soon. As per my understanding in 2025, VW will launch the Tayron and I guess in the same year VW will stop selling the Tiguan (or maybe continue with the existing one). I think India has to wait for a few more years for the new updated Tiguan. If VW will bring the new Tiguan before or by 2025 that would be great news for all VW fanboys.

Next, the new touch screen of the multimedia system with 12.8 inches in the normal versions and 15.6 inches in option.

Volkswagen has paid special attention, and not only in terms of technology, but also in materials. The steering wheel not only offers a new design, but also bets on classic multifunction buttons, one of the negative points that customers did not like and that have been solved. But it also offers a cleaner transmission tunnel. As we anticipated, the gear lever has been transformed into a small control placed between the two screens, while its usual space has been occupied by a round control as a selector of the driving modes.

It even has a screen at the top from which these are selected, the volume of the sound equipment and the intensity of the ambient light are regulated. The parking brake, until now also located in the tunnel, is now next to the minimalist gear lever. If you look more closely, Volkswagen has also changed even the design of the ventilation nozzles. The prayers of the Golf's customers, who begged for a band of keys under the most visible screen, now also has a backlight, have been heard so they are more visible at night.

The German firm will offer, first, the traditional combustion versions, both gasoline and diesel, all with 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. At the market launch you can only choose between three versions: the well-known 1.5 TSI engine of 150 hp and the diesel 2.0 TDI Evo with 150 hp and 190 hp, the first two with 4MOTION all-wheel drive, standard on the third.

In summer 2024 the most efficient versions of the range will arrive, the PHEVs of two Tiguan eHybrid. Gasoline will continue to be a fundamental part with a 156 hp engine and a 130 hp electric motor is associated. The German firm will offer two versions, front-wheel drive with 204 hp and all-wheel drive with 272 hp, both with a lithium-ion battery of 18 kWh capacity with which they will have a maximum range of 100 kilometers. In addition, its 11 kW on-board charger will allow connection to fast charging points supporting a power of up to 50 kW with direct current, reducing the time needed to charge up to 80 percent.

2024 Volkswagen Tiguan PHEV spied testing in light camouflage

The Tiguan PHEV doesn't look too different from other variants of the new model. The door to cover the charging port is on the driver's side front fender. The nose features a broad fascia with bracket-shaped chrome elements on the outer edges. VW disguises the upper grille with decals. The headlights have boxy lamps inside of them.

VW will offer the new Tiguan with optional HD matrix headlights. Each of them has 19,200 micro-LEDs that are individually controllable.

the third-gen Tiguan comes standard with a 12.9-inch infotainment display, and a larger 15-inch screen for higher-level trims.

The new Tiguan will be available with two PHEV powertrains. One of them has 201 horsepower, and the other makes 268 hp. The electric driving range would be up to 75 miles. There would also be gasoline- and diesel-fueled models.

The next-gen Tiguan rides on the MQB Evo platform. Compared to the current one, the next-gen model is 1.25 inches longer and a 0.2-inch taller. The wheelbase remains at 105.5 inches. The cargo volume increases by 1.16 cubic feet. Later, a seven-seat Tiguan Allspace variant would arrive with a longer body.

VW reports that the new Tiguan is among the brand's final vehicles to use combustion engines, along with the Passat and T-Roc. The automaker plans to only offer EVs in Europe starting in 2033.

Hello,

So, do we have confirmation about the new Tiguan 5-seater coming to Indian market in 2024 or will that be a 7-seaten Tayron? And how about engine options for each? I hope the 2L Petrol ICE is maintained before the final jump to Electric/Hybrid.

The current Tiguan on offer is on my short-list but if a radical new Tiguan Petrol is on the cards within the next year or so, I’ll wait.
