Quote:
The vehicle, which the police in Myrtle Beach, S.C., found abandoned as Hurricane Dorian loomed, grew into a popular meme.

...As he was turning, Mr. Farrar got stuck in a ditch in the sand and left the vehicle in search of help, but all of the towing companies he called said they couldn’t get to the vehicle before the hurricane was expected to strike.

Someone noticed the abandoned vehicle on the beach, and called the police. Officers were sent around 7 a.m., according to a police report, but with the hurricane nearly upon them, they determined it was too dangerous for a tow truck to remove the Jeep. Before leaving, one officer attached a buoy to the bumper so the vehicle could be located later.
People went on to create memes about the floating Jeep.

This happened to my Civic! The guy I sold it to, beached the car and the tides did the rest :(

After valiant attempts to recover the car, the issues kept cropping up in expensive electronic parts. The guy scrapped the car!

Never really had the guts to take my Safari, Aria or X3 right onto the Beach waters in all these years. It was just the sidelines. But Mumbai rains did breach the bonnet multiple times on the way home. Our Roads and Rains are enough.

Maybe I wasn't smart enough or unsure of my insurance coverage.

Both a Sad and Funny thread.

I did have quite a gag! For better or for worse, you're gonna have some vehicles that end up like this. When we have hooligans where they take their brand new Swift and Eritiga and dunk them inside the ocean, this poor Jeep has gotten a whipping unlike no other.

No man-made costly thing is match for mother nature, especially water. They truly, truly sweep you by the feet when you least expect, err.. by the wheels.

Cheers!

BTW, the hero of our story has already been recovered, and though dead, he's on his way to raise funds for the Bahamas. Link to the GoFund me page

Looking at such pictures, I always think that some people are way more stupid than we think. And funny thing is they keep proving it to us !

Taking cars on beach itself should be completely banned. High fines should be applied if people still do so. It is such a nuisance for people who come for enjoying their vacation along with family. These people generally interested in just show-offs to other people, nothing else. We saw similar stupid guy in Konkan who was about to lose his Fortuner in high tides, its tires were in water already half submerged in water & he was not able to get the car out. Luckily few people helped him out of mercy & his car was saved just in time.
