Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa resigns over excess pay

CEO Saikawa has resigned amid pressure from the board over excess pay. He reportedly received around USD440,000 in excess payment through a stock-based performance compensation program announced by Ghosn in 2016.

Saikawa says that he was not aware of the wrong-doing in the program and thought right process was followed. This IMO is hard to believe considering the fact that he was very close to Ghosn. This whole Ghosn scandal is pretty deep-root.

Saikawa was the one who was opposing a merger proposal from Renault and his ouster will spark the debate again.

Re: Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa resigns over excess pay

The Nissan saga is getting more & more hilarious with each passing day. First, this guy hands over his boss to the cops saying he is corrupt.

When the world asks him what were you doing when your boss was stealing money. He says I didn't know.

Now the audit committee finds he is guilty of the same financial malfeasance. When asked how did this happen? He replies you guessed it... I didn't know.

With such clueless guys at the wheel, is it a surprise Nissan is hurtling downhill?

The world is not enough - Human greed and integrity can always be questioned !

The kind of compensation that these guys get is very handsome and even terms like filthy rich & stinking rich are been used from time to time. Why in this world they get into manipulation to just have additional Zeros in their bank accounts which they intend to leave for their future generations and are not even scared of earning a bad name for themselves !

I am amazed !

He had it coming, he wallowed in the mud with Carlos and called him a stinkpot while there was enough mud stuck on him.

If you throw your confederates under the bus you must expect the bus to come for you as well, sooner or later.

This is exactly what seems to have happened to Saikawa san. Tried to oust Ghosn and take control. As Psalm 7:15 in the Bible says, "He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made".

Re: Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa resigns over excess pay

So basically, this guy admits that he manipulated (at least thats what I think I read) the process to get a higher compensation. In simpler words, he engaged in a selfish act of corruption.

Now, the Japanese are making Ghosn go through all that because his corrupt practices were aimed at selfish gains rather than gains for the organisation, which according to the Japanese is an unpardonable act.

So then will they dump Saikawa into prison too?? Let's see if the Japanese do unto themselves what they do to others.

Not gonna happen. If you read the press release from yesterday, the board has said that it did not find anything illegal in the act but still asked Saikawa to resign. This clearly shows that they have no intent to proceed legally against him. Ghosn has been a political target.
