Toyota has unveiled the next generation Yaris based on the TNGA-B platform, with all new DynamicForce engines, all of them inline-3s.

As usual with TNGA launch, it's lighter, more rigid, has lower centre of gravity and increased width. The seats also have lower hip point, and the interiors are minimalist in nature.

The engines offered are basically:

1. 1.5l engine with 6spd manual and CVT options.
2. 1.5l hybrid engine with e-four AWD system, basically rear tyres powered by batteries.
3. 1.0l with 5spd manual and CVT options.









Would be launched in Japan initially, and a global product. But USA won't be getting this, have to contend with the rebadged Mazda 2.

While us here in India, we have the superb Glanza and the soon to be launched next generation Toyota Brezza. So, don't expect this anytime in our shores

The tilt seat function looks interesting, especially for low set seats. Less wear on the side bolsters and our bones too. Though guess, this would be a JDM only feature and would be the first thing to be cut off for the decontented global versions.



Me happy that along with the manual, the manual handbrake too survives in the Yaris.

Sharp looking . This is a rare modern Toyota whose design I love (except the rear wheel arch). But yes, because the Yaris royally bombed & Toyota's newfound access to Maruti's product range, I don't expect to see the new Yaris here either.

The last generation was a good looking car too IMHO, before Toyota made it a bit quirky with the facelift (that eventually got launched in our market as the Yaris sedan).

Spotted this spec in Thailand, and I was rather surprised that Toyota hatchbacks could look good. Even more surprised it was just a Yaris!

That said - we will have to make do with Glanza instead. May not be a bad thing also, seeing the way Toyota priced the current gen Yaris sedan in the market.

Toyota now launches the YARIS L CROSSOVER , exclusively for China.

The new "Yaris L Crossover" released in the Chinese market this time, although the detailed specs are not clear, the wheelbase is extended from the new "Yaris", so the space at the foot of the rear seat And a crossover with a larger styling

Unlike the new European-spec Yaris, the shift knob on the center console does not use shift boots, and does not have an electronic parking brake (hand-type side brake).

There is only one type of powertrain to be worried about, a 1.5L engine. Detailed specs. not revealed yet.

The side tilting seat is a thoughtful feature which will be of use to older people, fatter people and those wearing a saree. Never understood why car designers rarely give a thought to the comfort of entering and exiting a car - high set seats, tall boy designs, suicide doors - often or always sacrificed for low set looks ostensibly to cut wind resistance. Wind resistance starts to count only after 150 kmph and is marginal at 100 kmph.

The design is meh. Too convoluted for something like a small city car. That front grill reminds me of the older Nissan Micras. Wish Toyota launched the e-awd variant of this instead of the Glanza. Could've been a class first and brought the feeling of hybrid and awd to the masses.

Micra was the first thing that came to my mind as well on first look. However this is one good looking hatch. It would be so nice if Toyota could launch this to replace Glanza but that is never going to happen.

Looks to be based on the current generation Yaris than the upcoming one pictured in the first post. The new one is way too curvy.

The front elements and even the side bears a clear resemblance to the current generation pre-facelift Yaris I've posted above.

Toyota Yaris voted European Car of the Year 2021.

It’s the second time a Yaris has won the award – the first-generation Yaris was named Car of the Year in 2000.



The Yaris supermini, which is offered only as a petrol-electric hybrid, scored 266 points as it saw off challenges from six other shortlisted cars.

Toyota’s New Hybrid Yaris WRC Car:

New for next year’s World Rally Championship season will be the introduction of hybrid powertrains for the first time. All cars competing with feature a 1.6-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor that adds 100 kW (134 hp) and 132 lb-ft (180 Nm) of torque. Vehicles will also be equipped with a 3.9 kWh battery pack which, like the electric motor, is protected by a sealed carbon fiber housing near the rear axle.

The new car is based on the GR Yaris and therefore features a revised front fascia with unique headlights. It also features wider front wheel arches and features equally as radical dive planes as the 2021 model. The prototype in this video also has massive air intakes stretching out from its sides and not present on some other prototypes previously teased by Toyota Gazoo Racing.

Like all WRC cars, Toyota’s latest creation sounds absolutely incredible, proving that even though WRC is venturing into the world of electrification, the sport isn’t going to get any less exciting
