The BMW 2-series coupe was easily one of the best-looking BMW out there. The face, headlights, overall proportions all were so right. But in its new FWD Gran Coupe avatar, it has gone from sporty elegance to total bling! I thought the X7 looked the worst in the new BMW line-up but they managed to better the wackiness with the new 235i. It probably will drive better when compared with its immediate competitors, and may get adjusted to the way it looks, but for now I am totally disappointed with the new design language of BMW.

It was obvious a small sedan was going to come. They had to make a product in the CLA niche. Note that this one has nothing in common with the M2 coupe. This based on the FWD platform of the new 1 series.

Seriously! If we were to officially review this car, our exterior post would be full of criticism. I hate Gran Coupes and making it smaller has just made it uglier. The highlights at the front are so overdone, while the rear is very un-BMW.

BMW has lost the design game at a time when Mercedes is truly killing it!

Rear reminded me of the Honda WRV

Seriously with the F10, BMW had a very confused strategy.

3 series - sporty 4 door saloon - yeah ok!
3 series - sports estate - yeah, I like those, great for leisure activities
3 GT - slightly spacious hatch version - erm hello, wasn't the 3 series already fattened up a bit?
4 series - sexy sleek coupe version - yep, trying to stop being a 2 door version of the 3, I get it
4 Gran Coupe - 4 door coupe - am confused now, one normal 4dr, one full fat 4 dr and now and extra small 4 door

I think the product manager was watching Game of Thrones and misheard Hodor shouting Fordor all the time.

The Grancoupe works for the erstwhile 6 and the 8 not for smaller cars.

BMW will launch its stylish 2 Series Gran Coupé sometime around July or August this year. The carmaker’s first three-box car to go on sale – positioned below the brand’s mainstay, the 3 Series – the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé will take on the new Mercedes-Benz A-class Limousine and the Audi A3 sedan. Like the X1 SUV, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is built on BMW’s front-wheel-drive platform.
The 2 Series Gran Coupé is expected to come to India with two engine options. The 220d will come with a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine, while the 220i is expected to get a slightly detuned version of the 140hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that is also expected to do duty in the X1 facelift that’s set to be launched soon.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé’s prices in India are likely to start around Rs 32 lakh, with prices for the top-of-the-line variants going all the way up to Rs 38 lakh (ex-showroom).

Yuck. One ugly car.

BMW never had a competitor to the CLA or the A3 in India. The 3-Series has been their cheapest sedan for long. So its time they brought this in. However, I so wish they had designed it on the lines of the 2-Series Coupe, which is drop-dead gorgeous. Would have loved to see more of those cars on Indian roads.

Customers will go for the new good-looking A-Class sedan instead of this car.
