New Subaru Impreza to be a hatch

New Impreza to be a 247kW hatch

Subaru gave us a big clue with the showing of their B5 concept, and the Impreza and WRX models are following the B5's lead with a dramatic makeover which turns its trunk into a hatchback!

Yes, that's right: The Impreza, as seen here, will be a hatchback when the new model makes it's debut for the 2008 model year! Just like the B5 Concept.
And, we're hearing the Impreza name may even change with the introduction of the new car, but we can?t imagine Subaru dropping the WRX designation.

As for power Subaru is to upgrade its 2.5-liter H4 turbo, with an output of about 247kW[approx 331 bhp] - and maybe even higher in some markets!

Official pics of the 2008 WRX have been released:

I dont know how this's an improvement; moving from an aggressive performance sedan look to a wagonish looking hatch ? I wonder what the STi would look like.

Yuck! That is such a pathetic looking car! What were the Subaru guys thinking?? The current Impreza and Scooby05's are so much better looking than this.

Update: there's a pic of the Sedan here:
New York Preview: 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX sedan - Autoblog

Still not convincing. If not for the massive intake, it could pass for a Civic I guess..

The Impreza always had a hatch/sport wagon version which was always sold alongside the sedan. So maybe this is simply a evolution of the same and will be sold alongside the upcoming Impreza.

This is what the current wagon looks like:

This is With regards to the UK market ,I dont know about the other markets:

The subaru impreza would only be available as a hatchback, and they would get a diesel variant too by 2009.

The interesting thing to note with the direction subaru is taking with its 08 Impreza is that its in the complete opposite design philosophy to the next-gen Evo. While the next-gen Evo becomes flatter and longer, the Impreza seems to be simply be getting nowhere.

The Impreza hatchback/sporty estate has been available in the UK market for many, many years.

After looking at the pictures posted on autoblog. I feel the new Impreza is not as aggressive looking as compared to the old one. Of course this is probably jsut the regular version and Im sure the WRX will be a lot meaner.
