Default Genesis GV80 SUV leaked

Images showing the upcoming Genesis GV80 SUV have surfaced online.

Name: Genesis GV80 1.jpg
Views: 1364
Size: 45.4 KB

The GV80 gets a large G-Matrix grille flanked by slim head lights. It also gets a sculpted bonnet, wraparound tail lamps, roof rails and a chrome trim running along the bottom part of the doors. The SUV gets a dual-tone interior equipped with quilted leather, a 2-spoke steering wheel, touchscreen head unit, a digital instrument cluster, massaging seats and a rotary dial for transmission controls. Some variants could get a single-tone interior with an analogue instrument cluster.

The Genesis GV80 could be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a naturally aspirated V6 and a 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 engine. A plug-in hybrid could also be offered at a later stage. Rear-wheel drive as well as all-wheel drive variants could be offered.

The SUV is likely to be launched in 2020 and could compete against the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Volvo XC90. Prices could start around US$ 50,000.

Hyundai used to have some of the best looking cars, the mantle they seem to have given to Kia now. A bad choice to go with BMW focusing on big ugly grilles.

Good lord; what is with that grill!

Genesis sedans have generally been fairly pretty; this new trend of tiny headlamps and large grills is pushing the design language into silly category.

'War-of-the grilles'. Thats what the luxury car game is turning out to be!

And funny thing is - this trend of ever increasing grille size is happening just before grilles disappear completely due to electric cars.

I still don't get it. Why can't Hyundai bring Genesis to India to compete against BMW, Mercs and Audi ? Price it 15-20 Lakhs cheaper and it's a hit in our market.

If Genesis, Infiniti and Acura do come to India that would indeed be a boon for the buyers. These beauties will add versatility in the sea of Mercs-BMWs-Audis.

And if they do price it effectively undercutting the big 3 that would be a dream come true. However, as Lexus has shown dreams may just remains dream for the time to come. Sigh

Looks like a Palisade in Genesis clothes. Palisade is already with good interiors so I expect this one's interior to be luxurious. It has the potential to compete well with Acura MDX & Lexus RXL in USA except for the fact that Genesis is still an unknown brand.

I kinda dig the looks.

Though the grille looks like an XXXXL Cadillac emblem, it's not ugly per se, and the rear looks like a poor man's Bentayga.

But love the return of the two spoke steering wheel. Looks like an modern interpretation of an old Lincoln's steering wheel. Sure tired of seeing 'sporty' 3 spokes in everything.

The interior looks good, taking elements of both Range rover and Lexus, though the colour is going to be a royal pain to maintain.

Since it's based on the G80, wonder why the V8 didn't make it here.

Hyundai does have plans to bring Genesis to India, but they're currently busy fighting it out in the lower segments. Also, I believe that the number of RHD Genesis models is limited.

Back to the GV80, gosh . Hyundai has totally lost it in terms of design. Quite disappointing as I liked their current gen styling.

Perhaps the only model from Hyundai which doesn’t have any eye-catchy curvy design element anywhere in this car.

Dislike

Hyundai Genesis sedan has been a complete flop in Australia even though it was an excellent car that offered really good value for money - it was a E-class sized luxury sedan at a C-class price. The few private buyers who bought it lost their money as the depreciation was off a cliff. The only happy chappies are the limo owner operators who got a full sized luxury car cheaply. It actually looks quite elegant in black.

Somehow Hyundai does not have the cache of the German Big Three in luxury circles! I believe Hyundai is going to launch Genesis as a standalone luxury brand. Then it might have a better chance.
