Suzuki's Jimny's success has made many SUV manufacture's redraw their plan and prioritizes the ultra compact in their road map. Jeep is no exception to it.

The American off-road manufacturer will launch a rival to the Suzuki Jimny in two years time – with electrified variants possible.

Jeep has confirmed it will launch a new “ultra compact” utility vehicle in 2022. Designed to sit below the Renegade in the company’s line-up, Jeep’s latest off-roader will act as a rival to the Suzuki Jimny – and it could feature an all-electric powertrain derived from FCA’s planned merger with PSA.

Interesting and very sensible.
However, while this is all good, Suzuki really ought to bring in the Jimny to India.
And so should Jeep bring in the Renegade to India.

I wonder why it is taking them so long to understand that we, just like Brazil and other countries where these vehicles have been launched, have the same kind of terrain challenges as well as SUV fascination.

Jeep has wasted no time in making use of the new partnership between FCA and PSA by starting development on a new ‘ultra-compact’ SUV that will be pitched as a more rugged alternative to the likes of the Nissan Juke and Volkswagen T-Cross.

The small SUV is being developed with European markets in mind, because the segment is one of the fastest growing in a region where Jeep still sees significant scope for higher sales.

Previewed by our exclusive images, the forthcoming baby SUV will be around four metres in length – which will make it slightly longer than a Suzuki Jimny, but a few millimetres shorter than the recently-launched Juke. It will retain Jeep’s chunky styling cues and boxy proportions.

the car is almost certain to adopt the Common Modular Platform (CMP) architecture used for the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback, among others. As well as being able to accommodate petrol and diesel power, the platform can also feature fully electric drive with a range of up to 211 miles on a single charge.

Going after the success of Suzuki Jimny, the American carmaker is developing an entry-level SUV, which will be smaller than the brand’s current entry-level offering – Renegade and will be slightly larger than the Suzuki Jimny.

the most interesting bit here is the 5-door layout, which puts it up as a winner against its 3-door rival.

the upcoming Jimny-rival from American carmaker will be the smallest car in its lineup. It won’t be as small as the Suzuki Jimny, but it will not measure any longer than 4 meters.

Expected to be launched not earlier than late 2022.

New baby Jeep SUV to be all-electric.

The new Jeep SUV will sit below the Renegade and is part of the brand’s plans to have a fully electric model in every sector by 2025.

If the baby Jeep were to arrive before Meunier’s date of 2025 for full electrification it would have to use the new generation of parent company Stellantis’s CMP platform that’s set to debut in 2022.
