The Bronco sport may receive hate as a wannabe crossover existing to milk the Bronco brand, but as a standalone product it is attractive. Sort of like the Jeep Renegade.

If the next gen Ecosport has Bronco inspired styling instead of Edge/Puma inspired one, it would be a roaring success.

AFAIK, in the near future.
Two Ford SUVs/crossovers will come to India.

1. Based on the Ford B platform, with Mahindra engines. Will be shared with Mahindra.
Guess, whatever Ford Brazil is developing.
A Creta rival.

2. Based on the upcoming XUV500. Basically sharing everything, though kind of trusting Ford not to do a Glanza on this.

So where does the Ecosport come in the picture?

Would cease to exist as a sub 4m car? And grow to the 4.3m class?

the design of the third generation of the Ford EcoSport was advanced. The design was already defined and, were it not for the pandemic, in December it would have begun production of prototypes of the model in a pilot plant maintained by Ford and Senai in Camaçari. The launch would be at the end of 2021

The situation is even more alarming. Many Ford suppliers were already producing equipment and machinery fundamental to the manufacture of the new compact SUV. News of the closure of Ford's plants in Brazil fell like a cold water bath in these companies and their contractors. Most don't know what's going to happen, or what they're going to do with tons of tons of equipment and molds.

However, it seems, Ford will honor the contracts closed and their respective fines

- The design of the new Ford EcoSport was the BX755

- There were two others underway: the BX784, an average SUV that was treated as the new generation of the Territory, and a derivative of it with coupe profile, with steeper ceiling trim, the BX785.

- The current situation is: the three projects are definitely cancelled, as well as the CX737 project, which provided for a new SUV based on a Mahindra platform and which was also at an advanced stage.

-The case of the Indian SUV is more delicate, as it depends on another manufacturer's platform and engine.

-But a feature of the three SUVs created in Brazil can hinder their continuity in other markets

There is no more machinery for the production of cars from this platform in Mexico, for example. The craiova factories in Romania and Chongqing in China (Changan-Ford) remain. This purposely disregarding the Chennai plant in India. While the Romanian factory produces the Puma, the others manufacture the EcoSport.

New Ecosport could be shelved?

What is fact is that taking any of these projects to another country would take a long time and cost a lot of money. And none of this is foreseen

Guess that puts a big question mark over Ford India's future.

For the simple reason that the Figo and Ecosport, have been developed in and targeted at two markets mainly.
India and Brazil.
With Brazil plants closed and all project developments cancelled, it could be as well as said that the next gen Figo and Ecosport is dead.

Only two ways forward for Ford India.

1. Flog the current model lineup. Launch the XUV500 counterpart and pray it is a huge success, resulting in Ford launching even more upmarket vehicles. And also use the 2500 import quota.

2. Go the GM India way.

Personally praying that the next gen Ecosport gets through and is launched in India. Would like to say the same for the Figo family, but then our market has not been kind to it to make a business case.

To be frank, this is quite confusing and the silence from Ford isn't helping at all. If they're indeed serious about their operations in India, it is high time to instill confidence in potential customers and the existing ones. Negative news is like a wild fire, and it might cannibalise their already weak sales. An informed buyer will put off the decision to own a new Ford in India, until or unless they have an assurance from the company regarding their India strategy.

They're already losing traction on the market whilst the competition is growing. Just look at the EcoSport sales. From 4500+ units in October to a meekly 980+ in December. Right decisions at right time bring fruitful results.

As Ford India and M&M calls off their joint venture in India and decides to operate independently, Ford is all set to launch the 2021 Ford EcoSport soon. Recently, Ford has also slashed the price of the current generation EcoSport and the company will offer additional features on each trim to clear out the stock.

Design-wise, the upcoming Ford EcoSport is expected to get a newly designed grille and a fresh pair of LED headlights. Further, it will also feature a redesigned interior with a slick touchscreen infotainment system. This time the triple DRLs on the Ford EcoSport will remain the center of attraction.

According to the sources, the upcoming Ford EcoSport will come powered by a 1.2L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine. It produces 130 BHP of power along with a peak torque of 230Nm. Further, the facelifted EcoSport will also come with a 1.5L diesel engine that churns out 99 BHP of power and a peak torque of 215Nm.

Similar news for next generation of Beat & even spyshots spotted in India were also shared before the exit of GM from India. I would suggest the potential Ford customers to be cautious at least for next few months. The higher management may not share the actual news of cease of operations in India before clearing out substantial amount of the stock inventory, learnt it in a hard way! Just my two cents, so that unsuspecting customers are not feeling deprived later.
