Re: Honda planning a new hatchback based on the City sedan

Honda 'City' hatchback in new spy shots as tests continue in Thailand:

Quote:
the rim model used in this Honda City Hatchback unit, which has exactly the same shape as the Honda City Turbo RS in Thailand
Quote:
the shape of the body line extending in the side, which is also the same as the body line in the sedan version. While the glass shape of the window is exactly the same as the sedan version, only the C pillar is certainly changed so that it better fit the posture of a hatchback. Other details that can be observed are the use of rear spoiler with side support and also the model shark fin antenna, as well as the rear glass that has been equipped with Defogger

The front quarter window looks different to me than what the Fit/Jazz has.

Honda's city based hatch, slated for launch in Brazil too. Will rival VW Polo

Quote:
Developed in Thailand, the unprecedented two-volume configuration of the compact sedan will be produced locally – in Itirapina (SP), along with the other models – and will win the market next year to compete with VW Polo and top versions of the Chevrolet Onix.

Its target audience will be formed by young people attached to cars with more sporty proposal. You will receive the same face, the same side doors and the same wheelbase of the new City sedan, according to records of the Inpi (National Institute of Industrial Property).

From the sides this gives more like a station wagon feeling rather than hatchback. But kudos to Honda the front and rear looks good.

Polo is not here because VW does not want it here. Its about 5 cm longer and they can easily manage that with very slight design changes (like shaving the bumper). They have not brought it here because the platform is expensive and the segment is a fiercely fought one with narrow margins and people looking for features and VFM quotient over build quality.

They want to focus on C SUVs here where margins are fatter and people do give slight attention to safety and build quality and don't mind paying slightly more for an overall better product. This segment is also not very FE conscious (look at the DCT Hectors).

It is quite confirmed that the Thai version of All NEW Honda Jazz may not be the same as Japan anymore. But must change to a new model Come to use the basic front and design work together with the All NEW City 4-door body instead

The engine of the All NEW Honda Jazz Thai version will be the same as the City that was launched earlier.

Re: Honda planning a new hatchback based on the City sedan

This looks more like a station wagon and less of a hatchback. I doubt if Honda would be able to do a proper chop job and launch this as a sub-4 metre hatchback. What would happen to the next generation of Jazz in India now?

This car will not be modified to a sub 4 m length.

The next Gen.( currently in EU/Japan) will not be launched in India.

Re: Honda planning a new hatchback based on the City sedan

Localise to bring down costs and price this range between Rs 8.5 - 11 lakhs. Change the front to an all honeycomb grille setup to appeal to a younger audience and this should sell.
A new segment "premium plus hatch" segment will be born.
Remember the Chevy SR-V? That was ahead of its time.

Re: Honda planning a new hatchback based on the City sedan

The car looks very bland. But the 1 litre engine + manual gearbox would be an interesting option i think. It's a shame for Jazz if this replaces the Jazz here, because the Jazz is an incredibly practical car.

Re: Honda planning a new hatchback based on the City sedan

Honda needs to focus on the Creta/Seltos segment. Their BRV was a decent choice but with MUV looks it did not click as well. With a proper CUV shape and their 1.5 NA engine it would be a formidable opponent against the "Cretos" (Creta/Seltos) twins.

They are wasting their time if they bring this hatchback to India. Simply launch the new Jazz instead of diluting the City nameplate. Why are they wanting to consider watering down a product which is still considered like a premium car in the minds of common middle class people? I hope the new Jazz and not this hatchback makes it here.
