Tata Motors today unveiled the Tata Elegante concept, a sedan based on an all-new platform at the Geneva Auto Show.

The Tata Elegante, larger than the current Indigo sedan, is conceptualised to incorporate 4 cylinder transverse petrol and diesel engines from 1.4 litres through to 2 litres and a compact V6 petrol power unit.

Common rail direct injection (CRDi) turbo diesel engines with variable valve timing and capabilities to comply with Euro V emissions norms will also be made available. Power varies from 90 to 200 PS with torque of upto 280 Nm. Transmission options include 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

The Tata Elegante's features include satellite navigation system, cruise control, integrated blue tooth compatibility, heated mirrors, rain sensor, front and rear parking sensors, and many other contemporary features.

Ratan Tata, chairman, Tata Group, said: "This is the 10th year of our participation in the Geneva Auto Show, since 1998 when we unveiled the Tata Indica. Several of the design cues of the Tata Elegante are incorporated in the forthcoming generation of Indica and Indigo cars."

Looks like it's only a concept car like so many others shown by Tata at foreign auto shows.

Looks more Confusede than Elegante.

How come you guys forgot this
"Tata Motors is also displaying a redesigned Tata Pick-up which is fitted with a 2.2 litre 140 PS common rail direct injection Euro IV compliant diesel engine. With superior styling and comfort features as well as safety features such as ABS and airbags, this is a versatile Pick-up truck suited for business as well as leisure applications. It is offered in single cabin, double cabin and space cabin versions in 4x2 as well as 4x4 configurations. Superior fuel mileage and better payload capacity make it a profitable choice for commercial and personal usage. While continuing to be manufactured in India, the Tata Pick-up will also be manufactured in Thailand and will be marketed in Tata Motors’ existing European, Asean and African markets."

Well it is clear that they are going to utilise the 2.2L

Godfather

With that Elegante, maybe Tata plans to open up a new segment - the econo luxury rally car that does 0-100 kmph in 25 secs.

i just hate the grill on the elegante.. dosent go with the car.

lol:

well said... The front styling looks really confusing...

The grill still reminds of the Indicas and indigos... The headlamps remind of the Indiva concept, and the bumpers look like they belong to a next gen SUV (with a dont mess with me attitude...)

Howeverm the side view seems nice!

Actually the front looks somewhat like the E-class disaster that DC had designed some years back!!

it will be New Magna?? or yet another car of price range 8 to 13 lakhs?? please tata make it. everytime they just show the concept.

Section upto the A-pillar seems to be consistent with the spy pics published by various mags of the next generation Indica.
Front is too concept car-ish. Wish they had displayed it in classic sedan colours like black/dark blue. Overall seems very close to a real production model, IMHO.

It is not that bad, me thinks. The grille, the head-lights and the bumper are not out of place. May just need a little getting used to.

why cant i open the link??? anyone else not able to open it? can someone post the pic from the link. please. much appreciated.

Any hi res pics? Couldn't really see what is going on in that small pic. Side profile reminds me of the Ford 500.

Which means it resembles just about everything :). Nothing special or groundbreaking about the Five Hundred/Taurus.

With an eye on moving up to the bigger segment, India's largest automobile company Tata Motors has unveiled its concept car 'Elegante' - a vehicle larger than its existing sedan Indigo.

While the new models based on this concept are expected to fill the company's portfolio in the bigger segment, Tata said the new sedans could be in the Indigo series.

The future cars based out of 'Elegante' could be launched in the Indian market shortly as the company is pushing hard on making concepts into products.
"We are focusing on production rather than making mere concepts let them remain as concepts and models based out of Elegante will out on the roads soon," Tata Motors managing director Ravi Kant told PTI.
